I'm going for the soft top. Once I went to the dealer, and so how easy it was to flip back that soft top I'm sold.
Me too. I need to be able to put the top down whenever I want. I don't care if it is a little louder. Honestly in the video it seemed too close to call.

I thought the soft top would of been way louder at highway speeds. Here in SoCal soft top only way to go.

I ordered a hardtop mainly for a little extra security. I’m sure I’ll add an aftermarket soft top at some point.

Yes, security was definitely on my mind. But, even when I lived in Mexico and had soft top down there, only had one
incident where someone reached in jeep and set off alarm. Where as here in SoCal, my BMW was getting keyed every
few months. Had to get rid of that thing.

Which steps/rails did you end up going with? I'm really liking the Rock Hard 4x4™ Patriot Series Tube Slider Rocker Guards Angled Downward....for shortest Jeeper family member of my household. Unfortunately it will see less true trail trekking so the clearance of the downward angle isn't as big of an issue for me.

Those are nice! I went with the ROAM Off Road ones. Got a great deal.

Just meant they are a great price. $299 for side steps and offer a good bit of protection AND most importantly, made in the USA.

I talked with Anthony at @ROAM , and I think they're getting another shipment in 2-3 weeks if I remember correctly. Hit him up. Super nice guy.

Question: Did you test drive only the one hard top? There is a possibility that you test drove one with a bad seal that affected the impression. There seem to be a lot of people complaining about wind noise. I believe the noise from each top is different pitch too, which might sway which one seems louder to the occupant. I also ordered a headliner.

The soft top alone was not an option for me - I will regularly be using a roof rack. Oh, and Canadian winters? Since I have no garage for storage, the dual-top was no option either. However, Bestop will eventually offer their Sunrider for Hardtop for the JL, and that will be the best-of-both-worlds option for me! In case you (or another reader) don't know what I'm talking about, here is the link.
Yes it was the only hard top I drove! It was a black hard top. I originally wanted the hard top for a bit more security but the soft top was just awesome all around. I know FCA is having a ton of issues with the noise from the hard tops so maybe that was a contributing factor like you said

This has been tested and measured. The hard top is quieter, but the soft top is not that different at highway speed (aka they are both noisy).

Perhaps that is why it seems better than the hard top because the disparity was so huge previously and now it has narrowed. It is about expectations. I assumed that soft top was going to be super noisy and when it wasn’t as expected I was happy. I have been driving mine for two days and I was actually able to have conversations at highway speed. Couldn’t do that with my 07.

That's my plan. I really like the look of the Trek top. I also just had a bikini top most of the summer.

I like the look of that one too. The angled back just looks right to me.

I just watched the video and really they appear about the same in the evaluation. The only negligible difference was idle. I drove both several times prior to deciding because I wanted the soft top but not if it was going to be like my JK (as I tak plenty of calls in my vehicle). The fact of the matter is that I could not tell the difference when driving and it looks as if the test bears that out. It is hard to tell especially when driving st highway speed. Either way, in the two days since I have driven it (about 100 miles) I am extremely happy with the soft top and it doesn’t hurt that we happened to have our warmest day his spring (near 80) so I had the sunrider back for a good part of the day. BTW, the sunrider aspect is phenomenal. The fact that it is spring induced and goes back further than the JK is awesome.
