I just installed a Uniden Bearcat CMX760 under the passenger seat. Wanted to share a few things I learned. First off, there are three ground lugs, one completely unused behind the passenger front right kick panel. They are right below the front right door wiring harness, which is removed in this picture. I used the lowest one for the CB.

The font passenger sill/kick cover snaps off by pushing horizontally toward the center of the vehicle.

Here is the radio mounted under the passenger seat. There was a ground lug I used to mount the Uniden bracket. I only used the one fastener, but it feels solid.

I zip tied the CB wiring to the wire loop that runs under the carpet and allows the seat to articulate fore/aft when adjusted.

The antenna will be mounted in the the tailgate reinforcement bracket. The fire ring cable had an intermittent ground, so I’m waiting on a replacement cable to finish that up. I removed the paint on the bottom surface and also pulled out a hinge bolt, removed the plastic washer, removed some paint and added a star washer for a good ground to the tailgate reinforcement bracket. I will also run a ground strap from the backside of that fastener, through the tailgate wire loom and to a good ground in the rear right side. I still need to remove that plastic to run the coax and attach the ground strap. I hope this helps someone!

Nice work, thanks for sharing. I’ve been wary of underseat mounting on my LJ because the top is off all summer including during heavy rain, but that looks far enough off the floor there shouldn’t be a problem. Will have to take another look at mine.

Thanks for the information! Please keep us posted once its wired up. I'm always worried about removing paint but what you described seems reasonable

Here are some more pictures...
There is one small screw to remove on the right rear cargo trim. It’s right behind the right rear seat.

I discovered this thread as I am planning to install my CB radio.

Matt, wondering how you tabbed into 12V. Were you able to tab such that you only have power with ignition on?

@matchews would you happen to know what Antenna stud you used to fit in the hole of the Reinforced bracket? The part I have seems to be too large of a diameter to fit through.

I used accessory wire bundled with the aux switch wiring.

@matchews I think I'm going to finally install my antenna on my tailgate reinforcement bracket as well tomorrow. Was it pretty easy to remove some paint from the bottom? Also, I'm mostly worried about making sure it's properly grounded. (Opposite of the interior portion), where did you place the other end of the grounding strap?

I just sanded the paint away. A star washer would help as well. The ground strap, which should be as short as possible, was ran through the tailgate wire loom up to the rear corner where I removed some paint and placed it under a mounting bracket for an electronic module. I had already removed the rear subwoofer and surrounding plastic trim, so this was easily accessible.

Thanks Mathew, I followed your instructions, however, decided to instal the radio under the glovebox.

Oh so on the exterior side you had the other end just directly in contact with the sanded portion of the tailgate?

Great post - I am getting the same radio. Did you ever consider mounting it in the console? Does the handset reach all the way to the driver's side?

I found a screw tying down a cable for one side, the other side is zip tied to the air vent. Power and antenna cable to the right, microphone extension to the left.
