I sure like the look of the Rhino-Rack Backbone and modular rack system but...although an Australian company, ARE THEY MADE IN CHINA?? I sent them a note and have not heard back...prolly not a good sign.

I'd love to spend my $$ anywhere but frigg'n China when given the option.

I'd say with near certainty the platform is made in china. It is decent quality. Its a compromise between weight and quality. I was a bit disappointed that all the hold down clips were plastic. There are a couple dozen of them and the clips are a critical connection point. They appear plenty strong. Just not sure they will hold up in the long run in the sun. I made new ones out of aluminum since I repositioned the platform slats to mate with my RTT through the internal ribbing not just through some un-reinforced part of the floor.
I'd give a good look at the Maximus-3 brackets. They are as low profile as you can get.
