Probably going to start at six figures with the way they had the LC200 priced... I'll still keep an eye out since I do like Land Cruisers (and the Lexus versions)

I don't understand why they can't take design inspiration from the J40. The plastic FJ was about as ugly as a car could get and this looks like any other van/SUV.

There was an Auto Blog article ~ a week ago reporting retro design inspiration to come from the FJ40 and 70 series round headlights and all .

It may get cross shopped, but it is not comparable to a Wrangler. Only the Bronco is in my opinion.

If Toyota really wanted to compete, they could bring the FJ70 here, they’d have to sink a lot of money into safety testing and emissions though. Doubt they would get enough market share to make it feasible. Plenty of low mile 25+ year old imports starting to show up now and people are paying for those near what a new Wrangler costs and more. But, Toyota wouldn’t get many buyers here for new ones in the $80-$100k territory for what is essentially a work vehicle.

I’m extremely interested in this upcoming generation of LC. If they slot it above the 4R and below the Sequoia in terms of size, and not too far into the stratosphere in terms of price, I’ll be strongly looking to them to replace my wife’s ‘18 4R.

When our kids were younger, my wife had a Lexus LX (gussied up Land Cruiser). It was like driving your living room - in a good/pampered way. We lived at a snowy 8,200' feet at the time. It was great in slippery conditions. Zero issues reliabilty-wise, and EXCELLENT fit & finish.

Interesting, but I'm more eager to see what the next 4Runner will end up looking like now that the Tacoma got its overhaul.

Mind you by the time the Land Cruiser hits dealer lots, there may be Wranglers that will be elevating into its probable price range ?

Funny. That looks like pretty much every larger SUV out there, particularly Toyota models for the last number of years. The build quality may be great, but with a few notable exceptions Toyota design has never been about styling. I definitely don't see this as a Wrangler competitor. I actually think that if they went to a modernized retro-look Land Cruiser design that harkened back to what made the first iterations so iconic that they would sell well. Those are true classics and people would go for that in a heartbeat to break away from the generic look of the modern SUV just to stand out.

After seeing what Jeep did, dragging Mahindra through the courts, that forced 2 design changes to the front end, I doubt Toyota would want to bring in a vehicle that looked like the FJ40 used to. FJ40 was a CJ7, before there was a CJ7 BTW.
