I think at least some of your anxiety comes from seeing the red dash along side the Hella Yella paint. That's two bright and nonpleasing to the eye color combinations. I have the red dash but the paint color is dark grey. That looks good, especially with the dash matching the red in the Rubicon decal and seat stitching. In your case, what you did looks much better.

Yes you are exactly right, the yellow-red combo was way too much.
Much better now

I do like that more than the red 100%. At least there's no crazy contrasts

Its just a steering wheel cover, I might as well lose it since I don't have anything else covered in the interior along with it

I took the dash apart and wrapped them in 3M sunflower yellow vinyl. It is very close, anyone but me would think its the same as HellaYella, even with it being so close to the painted body bits. But in actuality the vinyl is very slightly darker.

For those interested in the product and process. They are thin plastic covers, and I was surprised at how seamless they look. I was worried it would be bulky or something.

They come with double sided tape pre installed on the back, I warmed up the tape with a heat gun before installing. Instructions in the box were straightforward. Amazon link: https://a.co/d/8sU7TJC
