Poughkeepsie was a fun and beautiful trail. The Wall was harder than I expected.

Wow, I can't remember too much about what came right after The Wall, other than there were many options. You must have chosen something harder than I did!Was there last month! And yes, that's quite an obstacle. I went right on each of the forks and actually found that the obstacle AFTER the wall was harder than the wall for me. Gotta say I was relieved when that was over and to get back on the trails.

The obstacle after the wall is where I discovered that having UHMW on my skids isn't always a good thing. I got up on that boulder and the incredibly smooth UHMW layer resulted in the whole rig sliding off to the right. That crushed my RSE sliders...and we were on our way to the Rubicon Trail. Was there last month! And yes, that's quite an obstacle. I tried that straddle and was pretty sure I liked my tire placement, but I just kept sliding down/sideways/off of it. I wonder if it was wetter when I was there than it was when you were. I also was dumb enough to not have my front locked on my first several attempts, and I think that might have made the difference. The guy with our group ahead of me struggled and struggled, eventually took the far left route around it, got stuck due to one of those stupid steps in his hitch receiver (it's now mangled), then winched his way up.
While that was going on a woman with a group of side by sides offered to spot me. She had me carefully straddle the crack and I went right up with zero issues at all. Decent spotters for the win!
Have you done Eagle Rock lately? Big Hill (optional) was a massive challenge on Tuesday. The boulder placement seemed to always perfectly match up with my rear diff. It took us at least 20 minutes (and seemingly more than 20 retries) to make it through.
I often go too slow and don't have enough momentum. When I'm not sure if I'm gonna clear/fear I might hit, instinct makes me go slower so I gently bump that tie rod or diff rather than slamming it into a rock. But yeah... sometimes momentum is the only way.Best trail in the San Juans IMO, there are two lines on the wall that are extremely easy, a tiny bit of momentum and you won't even spin a wheel
Yeah, I'm always a bit nervous to apply too much of that "Colorado Bump".I often go too slow and don't have enough momentum. Great video Mike,Poughkeepsie was a fun and beautiful trail. The Wall was harder than I expected.

The group I've wheeled with did Eagle Rock fairly recently, seemed to do "ok". Last year, one of them broke a front driveshaft on it. Said it has gotten worse the past couple of years. I skipped it, still not sure my abilities are up to it (the Jeep probably is), but would like to try it sometime.I tried that straddle and was pretty sure I liked my tire placement, but I just kept sliding down/sideways/off of it. I've actually never heard of Eagle Rock; I'll have to look it up.
Thanks!Great video Mike,
I'm glad you beat that wall.![]()
Yeah, I looked at it on OnX and it looks intriguing. Looks like there are bypasses where you need em. I'll probably put it on my tick list. The group I've wheeled with did Eagle Rock fairly recently, seemed to do "ok". Last year, one of them broke a front driveshaft on it. Yeah, after such a battle with the Wall, I was mostly looking forward to Lake Como and a pretty drive out. I suppose I played a bit with some of the harder lines on the stuff after the Wall, but was mostly just looking to get out.I was there last week. The obstacles before and after the wall were a challenge. Was glad to get out of there.
