At the end of September my wife and I took a trip to Ocracoke Island. We barely had the Jeep for a month but wanted to go somewhere and do something. It’s a 6 hour drive from where we live to the ferry. One thing I don’t see people talking enough about is how comfortable the Jeep is. Obviously I’m not talking about the general ride, but the seats, the ergonomics, it’s all so perfect for us. My 2001 Wrangler SE was the same way. Drove that for 18 hours and always comfortable. It’s literally been the most comfortable car I’ve ever had for long trips.

Anyways, back to this trip. The 6 hour drive was a breeze. We got to the ferry just in time for a bathroom break before getting on. Loved putting the Jeep on the boat, really fun experience.

The island itself is tiny. Small town you could walk across. Most people biked but there are many Jeeps and other trucks for driving on the beach. This was my first time doing that and I was nervous. I read so many horror stories about “not if but WHEN you get stuck blah blah blah”. I was babying it and all nervous. When my wife drove, she didn’t give a damn and just drove like normal. I figured I needed to buck up and just drive the damn thing.

Driving around the beach is fun but the best part was being away from everyone. We parked the Jeep, took out the chairs and just chilled all day. So much fun.

At night it was completely black, with beautiful skies.

The trip was amazing. Ocracoke Island is definitely a place we plan to go back to. Just for the solitude, ocean and relaxation.

Looks like a great trip! I live on the coast but never been to Ocracoke. I actually just had a hard time spelling it. We take the jeep on the ferry to Cape Lookout a couple times a year. Glad you had a good trip!

It is a fun island for sure. Always nice people and they few scattered restaurants are great. Hit up the brewery.

I love Cape Lookout. It is my favorite of the Outer Banks area. We drive down by the southern tip of the island and many times there is no one else for 10 or so miles. maybe a random fisherman will go by but that is it.

We make it to Fayetteville NC one to two times a year. We need to do another run to the Outer Banks. I will let you know when we get that way again.

Wife and I were there in November of 2021. We were there on a personal east coast lighthouse seeking trip down the coast. We visited a lot of them, did Kitty Hawk, drove out on north beach in North Carolina. At Ocracoke, we did the ferry (I ducked a Jeep, just handed it to him), the lighthouse, ate, and ferried back during a great sunset.

Didn’t plan on a beach drive, but we will be going back, as Hatteras lighthouse was and is under renovations. That is one my wife really wants go into.

We've been vacationing in OBX for the last several years. Ocracoke is a real gem. Loved riding over on the Ferry and finding seclusion on the beach. Water is quite a bit warmer than north OBX too!

Now that I've replaced the Land Cruiser with the '24 Willys, looking forward to creating new memories in the Jeep. Hopefully it's as comfortable as you say as it's a 12 hr drive for us!

We went there in July. Really cool place.
We camped at Frisco the night before because we didn't want to risk ferry complications.
@ChrisG757 did you get any foot f#$%ers? (that's what the locals called the lovely little cactuses that hide in the sand for your feet and their little burrs that latch on to your shoes and socks.)

We camped at Journeyman's though since we "needed" power.
Want to try to beef up my battery by next year so we can avoid those RV spots.

I’m used to them. Frisco is pretty good about getting them removed. I was camping(tent) there last weekend. It was windy but no sand spurs.

I don't know, I was removing them for months from my camper and Jeep. 🤷‍♂️
