I have definitely bought items based on certain vloggers videos, not knowing it was a commercial at the time. I'm glad they get compensated from YouTube for producing content, that's only fair. Lord knows Google doesn't need any more money.

But it seems like nearly every "big name" vlogger is just a celebrity spokesperson now. I really hope they get paid a lot of money for whoring out themselves like that. They should at least make a statement like, "Please disregard everything I am about to say because I don't believe any of it and I am a lying shill."

I watched a couple of young vloggers go from "live at home' students to owning a large California house with swimming pool, new sports cars, lavish overseas vacations all without actually having any 'outside' jobs.

I may be in the minority but I’m not about to make a video about a product and attach my name to it for a “free sample” or worse, a discounted sample. Maybe I have more self worth than these people do.

For me, YouTube is entertainment. I take it for what it is. If I'm entertained then more power to them for making money. I watch fully understanding what is going on behind the scene. No big deal.

Not to jump in the mud here- as I understand both sides to this. But weather sponsored or not, weather they state it or not... we as consumers always have the options to research before we buy. Just because someone on this site as an example says Goodyear has the best 37" tires ever made… buy buy buy or you're missing out, doesn't mean I'm rushing to the tireshop for Goodyears.

We have a choice to watch the YouTube videos we do, and know which ones we like and would want to subscribe to. If you don't like what some of them push (weather they say its sponsored or not) maybe go to a different channel ;)

End of the day, the YouTube channels I follow are for entertainment like watching a tv show or movie. I hold no weight in what someone else uses/likes or says is garbage. I simply watch to see what dumb or fun SH*T they're going to do that day.
Happy Watching :jk:

LiteBrite vids were great! but the last 3-5 vids I've seen it's more advertising than anything else and it's just getting "too much". I like primal outdoors, and Lifestyle Overland but neither of them have a Jeep.

If you only watch 1 youtube review of a product and buy it because of that said review, I'm pretty sure you paid MSRP for your Jeep :CWL:

I make youtube videos of me and the jeep exploring. I do it because I find it fun, I don't expect money or anything else from it. I'm leaving for an entire month to Montana soon ✌❤

I will say though, if you're watching or reading something that is causing you to have a negative reaction ; simply stop consuming it. it will make the creator feel better that those who are not enjoying are not consuming, and more importantly it will make you feel better.

Am I the only one that's totally frustrated by the YouTube sellouts? You try to find some good content, but its just one commercial after another. Even vloggers I really like are basically just cheap product whores. Is there any content available that's not a commercial?
You're going to have to define "sellout".

I do my videos about the products I purchase for the JL, with my own money, because that's what people want to see. People want to see how tires wear and perform, how aftermarket soft tops work, how to install trailer hitches, how difficult is it to install a lift at home in the driveway, etc. That's what people care about.

None of the companies I buy product from sponsor me or pay me, and 95% of Jeep YouTubers can say the same thing.

I don’t mind influencer marketing as much as I hate that annoying Jeep couple. Having that chick’s voice grate on my brain while she uses her phone to admire herself makes me want to nose dive into an oncoming bus.

lol it does sound like some are forgetting that youtubers and any other person/company talking about any product wouldn't be doing it for long if they didn't get free products or good money for doing so.

As some others mentioned here a lot of you sound jealous cause your not doing what they do and what they do is awesome they get stuff we all want for free and get to sit at home and tell us about it and on top of all that they get paid better then most of us, heck I'm jealous but I understand that everyone has a job to do and some are better then others.

Also that these people are basically entertainers think of lite Brite she gets free stuff like everyone else she was smart enough to sell it in an awesome way that is entertaining, still doesn't change that fact she is doing the same thing everyone else is, she is just smarter about it.

Lastly your money is being spent and spend it your own way, but don't blame others cause your lazy and didn't research something yourself and trusted 1 persons 2 minute opinion in a video.

Advice - use multiple sources either videos/blogs/forums/reviews/etc and see what people are saying all over the place if you see something common in all of those places your best bet is its true, if you see little things here and there the consumers/installer could have been the issue not the product, some people for install go cheapest route = cheap results (most of the time) or they install themselves having no idea what they are doing - know your own skill level

I didn't read all of the posts but I haven't even seen an ad on Youtube in years and that is watching a ton of vids every day. I use https://adblockplus.org/ on my chrome and it blocks all of them, everywhere and it's free. I don't even see ads on this forum. I don't work for them, just passing along information.

You sir, are not a sellout. What’s your channel? I’d like to subscribe.

OP. Yep. I am a big YT fan. I usually unsubscribe and stop watching and caring when they go sponsored. I have an issue with all the fake reviews and bs. When getting money or free parts their reviews are stupid and can’t watch any longer. I start watching for the content, when they get bigger and they just become commercials I am out. Sadly it has been the case for a few Jeep youtubers.

Having said that I don’t fault them one bit. To make a living creating content people will watch and continue to watch when have is a commercial or ask to just give them money, more power to them. It America. I can choose to move on to the next channel for content.

I enjoy the videos. If I don't for any reason, I just stop watching. Some people are happy to find out about new products even if it's being advertised instead of reviewed. It's still a learning opportunity for those who don't get a chance to go out as much too when you see them beat their rigs off road. Watching newer videos could reveal that what originally was a great product at the time, did not meet their needs and so they upgraded and they explain the downsides after X months of usage.
