Someone buys a vehicle on a whim after a 5 mile test drive. Non-mechanical. Of course they have questions. Why is someone complaining about the noise of the Jeep and asking about solutions different than someone else asking about steering drift going down the highway? “Ah, it’s just a part of the experience”. Sure, but there are also aftermarket products out there that can improve upon the stock vehicle.

The beauty of the Jeep is it’s a blank canvas when you buy it. A huge aftermarket of upgrades and accessories to create what you really want and yet capable enough and attractive and functional enough upon purchase that you can keep everything stock, if you like, as well. I’ve driven and owned trucks since the mid-80’s and for the past 10 years have owned daily drivers in addition to various F-150 4x4’s for 30 years, including Platinums the last 15. The trucks always stay, while the daily drivers get traded in regularly. The bed on my trucks have never been used daily. They get used for trips to the hardware stores, tailgating and trailer pulling. Not an every day occurrence.

I like having a daily driver that can zip all over town, is fun to drive and is easy to park. The Jeep is significantly different compared to all the other vehicles I’ve owned, including the xTerra Pro-4x. Very few have left a memory over the last 40 years. The first Wrangler I got, I made a mistake. The V6 lacks power and is unfun. I liked everything else about it. When I went to 33’s, it didn’t quite corner as well as stock, but that’s what happens with an HA going from 20’s to 17’s. That one lasted about a year. Traded that 23 for a 24 HA 4xe with SOT. For some reason the battery weight makes the sport suspension shine even more. This time going from 20’s to 17’s, I went with aftermarket wheels, which kicked the tires out about an inch or so past the fenders. It still handles great. Active noise cancelling. Power seats, much more comfortable for longer rides. My family doesn’t bitch about riding/driving it. They actually like this one, so that’s a big plus. Much greater torque for passing, and unlike the Mustang convertible, I don’t have to stop to put the automatic top back up. My family takes bets on how long my side pieces (the daily driver) will last. They didn’t make bets on this one.

Sorry, OP. My 24 Wrangler isn’t likely to go on trails any time soon, if at all, but I bought the right vehicle.

The really, real question is, how much of that Jeep was built with "real" vs "OF real" money 🤑
No doubt a bunch of idiot simps paid for that...monstrosity. The number of "men" today that don't understand the concept of "never buy the cow when you can get the milk for free" amazes me.
We really should try to do something about the fact that men today on average have less than half the testosterone as their grandfathers before it's too late.

Hi, I'm Dusty. And I am a condescending jerk. Just wanted to get that out of the way before I continue. This post is my opinion, not a statement of fact. And I know that a lot of people are going to disagree with me. I'm okay with that.

If you bought a Wrangler and you do not go off road, you bought the wrong vehicle. There are so many posts here, with owners complaining about things that are just inherent to how a Wrangler is constructed. "My Jeep rides worse than ____, my gas mileage is bad after lift and tires (duh), it's noisy inside, my steering is funny, etc, etc..."

Not all of these posts are uncalled for, but some of the people have a rather unreasonable expectation. And some wish for Jeep to change the Wrangler to be more in line to what they are expecting. That's where I don't agree with folks. Several times people have expressed the wish for the Wrangler to have IFS, fixed windshields, even a fixed top. If that's what you want, those vehicles already exist. There are other options from most manufacturers that fit those categories. But there is only one vehicle like the Wrangler. The "quirks and features" to quote Doug Demuro from YouTube are what makes the Wrangler unique and desirable. It's the only SUV still available with a solid axle. It's the only one that has a folding windshield. One of only 2 that has a removable top. The body on frame construction makes it heavy, but rugged. The recirculating ball steering has a heavy feel and combined with the sfa can have rough handling and steering problems compared to IFS. But it's much stronger and easier to modify for improved performance off road. The problems that most people complain about, are part and parcel with the attributes that make the Wrangler such a desirable vehicle to people who want to use their Jeep off road on the trails. But it makes it a bad choice for a daily commute vehicle if you don't intend to ever go wheeling. Especially if you have modified it for larger tires to look cool, but did not consider how that would impact the daily drive.

Rant over. Again, this is just words from a judgmental prick. Feel free to completely ignore me. But maybe, just maybe after reading this you will think about what I wrote and if there is a kernel of truth to it.
I 100% agree with everything you said! I came from the 4Runner to the Wrangler! And now on my 3rd wrangler and can NOT tolerate anything else! I love it and it made me better at wheeling! I also daily drive mine and will go from 35" to 38" tires

Why do they have to be “morons”? Wouldn’t you expect a better steering system in a 50k+ truck?
No because the steering system in the Wrangler is the best for articulation and off road performance. Why would you want that changed no matter how much the vehicle costs?

Recirculating ball steering is stronger. That is what I expect in a Jeep. They make the Grand Cherokee for folks who want something with J**P written on it but don't wanna off road.

So, according to a self proclaimed condescending jerk, i should not expect a jeep to do what MANY other vehicles do, like ride and drive at well on the highway? I should just spend 60k on a piece of crap jeep then bend over and take it up the butt. My identity is not tied to my vehicle. I bought a jeep because it was advertised to be just as roadworthy as it is off road. Its neither! My tacoma will drag it sideways. On / Off road, plus it drives well too!! so take your jeep holier than our crap roll it up real tight and........

Is everyone so bored with their lives that what someone else is doing with their vehicle bothers you that much?
Respectfully, I do not think that is his point. I believe he is calling out people complaining that their JL does not drive like a Lexus. They do not realize that the more offroad capable the vehicle is, the farther it move from a comfy road handler. Jeep has done a good job of trying strike a balance, but we have to remember that it is an all terrain vehicle.

I don’t agree at all. A Wrangler makes an amazing winter vehicle. It’s a box on wheels that can haul huge dogs and an entire family with all our gear. We don’t have “off-road” places anywhere near Minneapolis, but what we lack in “off-roading” we make up for with craploads of snow. I’d rather take my Jeep through a foot or more of snow than bashing it off rocks or anything else of the sort. The only thing I have a complaint about previously is the crappy stock stereo which I have replaced and the two battery system which left me stranded two weeks ago. I drive it daily to work to pick up my bucket truck and usually am pretty damn happy, especially with the top off. It gets the same mpg as my outgoing CTS4 Sportwagon.

Saying I have to go wheeling in my Jeep or I bought the wrong vehicle is like saying I need black leather chaps and a pretied bandana to ride a Harley.

I better let Kopi know we have to go wheeling or he can’t like road trips in Jeep. He looks pretty happy on-road to me.

EV wranglers are nice but the price tag is just insane. Batteries last about 5 years and are expensive to replace. Buying an electric Jeep ($$$) and replacing the batteries ($$$$) will probably add up to more than a lifetime filling up and driving my Jeep at 16MPG. Not to mention building it up again to my needs. So I will keep my JL for as long as I will no longer be able to put gas in it and it will rust until it falls apart. But then I’ll probably just take the doors, top and windshield off.
