So I have only seen one post from a couple years ago about removing the Xtreme Recon Fender Extensions. Has anyone done this recently, and if so can you post some instructions and needed tools. Thanks in advance.

I just drilled out the plastic rivets to remove mine originally.

Ours has the metal rivets. What did you replace in the holes.
ok maybe I drilled out metal rivets- lol. I ended up chopping the fenders and removed the inners (including the holes where the rivets were located). But I suppose black plastic plugs could fill the holes. They sell them in sets of various sizes on Amazon.

Use a 1/4" or smaller drill bit to drill out the rivets and, like @MOOG5050 said, fill them with the xmas tree style caps that you can get on Amazon for cheap

It's basically the opposite of this video. Parts and tools are linked in the video description. Removal involves the same drilling out of rivets, and installation of replacement plastic rivets. Only difference is you're removing rather than adding the flares.

You ought to be able to sell your flares on here once you remove them. Lots of folks with wider tires and grimy jeeps want an easy way to add a little extra coverage...

EDIT - forgot to link the vid :-D

I have an XR and admittedly don’t do heavy off-roading as of yet. Out of curiosity why would you want to remove the flares??

Purely cosmetic. I don’t like how they look and we don’t live in a state that has a lot of road debris like up north. Had a 2018 JL without them and preferred the look.

If you can remove them without damaging them, I’d be interested depending on price.

Started on the rear and the rivets kept spinning. Worried about making the holes too big or damaging fender. Any recommendations on the drilling out part?
You can try using a trim pry tool to wedge under the rivet as you drill it out.

Aren't the flares there for a legal requirement too in some states? So the wheels do not extend beyond the fenders.

So is it true that the extensions only work with the Rubicon fenders? I have a 2021 Willys and like the look of the extensions.

Use a small jewelers screw driver to push the center in. May need a hammer to tap it with. Then use a trim tool to pull them out.
