I did see that the Carplay kit 3.0 was on sale today for $45 on amazon
That is a fantastic price for that device. I highly recommend grabbing one, especially at that price.

Ok.. I bought a carlinkit 2.0 in 2019 and it has worked pretty well over the last 4 years. I'm wondering if upgrading to 5.0 is worth the time?

Took your advice and picked up the Carlinkit 3.0 from Amazon at $46. Used their cable to plug into the center console and, so far at least, no issues.

I've been using the Carlinkit 2 or 3, not sure which now, for 2+ years. I have no issues with my phone doing anything weird for the 30 minutes the USB stays hot in the Jeep. It's in my garage so I'm not that far from it either.

I understand what you were referring to. It is likely the phone just remains connected to the dongle via Bluetooth and does not try to keep reconnecting. I certainly do not notice/experience anything on the phone when I leave the vehicle and am in the house within range. I don't get any CarPlay pop-ups, phone wake ups, etc. during the 1 hour time period after shutting down the vehicle, and I am constantly glued to my phone. I'm an IT/tech guy, (do it for a living for over 25 years) so I know what I'm looking at/talking about. :)
Carlinkit authorized return of the 4.0 unit Ibought from Amazon. I wish it had worked for meI wonder if the 5.0 will work?

my issue:

I have 2 Phonak Audeo Paradise P90R hearing aids paired to my phone. I must use them all the time. The hearing aid microphones pick up my voice. I hear my phone through the hearing aids. They insure I hear fast equipment on construction sites.
When I had the Carlinkit 4.0 dongle it dropped out often because my hearing aids were paired

Will the Carlinkit 5.0 work with my hearing aids paired to my iPhone SE?

I bought two of these for our Wranglers:

Wireless CarPlay Adapter 2023 Pro Edition - Fastest and Most Compact- AutoSky - Factory Wired CarPlay Cars – USB-A and USB-C Cables – Wired CarPlay Required https://a.co/d/hYFUGrq

I’ve got mixed feelings about them so far. When they connect, they’re fantastic. Great audio and everything works like it should. The problem is sometimes they connect automatically, sometimes I have to “forget device” and start over. It may be a setting that I haven’t tried changing yet. I can add a connection delay to the dongle, but haven’t done it yet. The error might be that the head unit is trying to connect to my phone wirelessly at the same time the phone is trying to connect to the CarPlay device, causing the connection to fail.
I connected these using the USB-C in the middle dash. When the Jeep is shut off, the dongle disconnects from the phone.

I just ordered a CarLinkIt from Amazon based on recommendations here. The 5.0 model was on a flash sale for $59.99. Cheaper than the 3.0 and 4.0 models. I read all descriptions and couldn’t really find the differences. Worth a shot I guess.

The 5.0 does CarPlay and Android Auto in same device.

Send them both back and go for the Carlinkit 5.0. I’ve used every Carlinkit adapter since 2.0 and never had a single issue with any of them. The 5.0 has a $23 off coupon on Amazon.

Used it yesterday and today for a little while. The CarLinkIt 5.0 worked great for me except for streaming Apple Music. It connects quickly and there isn’t any noticeable lag on the touchscreen or from the steering wheel controls. If I still used SiriusXM as my primary audio source, I would probably keep it. But I mainly use Apple Music. Streaming quality is definitely downgraded and jittery. The jitters go away if I switch from DVD to CD in the options, but then quality is downgraded even more.

The interface is a little confusing and the manual is poorly written/translated.

I have the Carlinkit 2.0. For the most part, it behaves. To me, it looks like they are all the same basic unit - likely manufactured on the same assembly line, but with slightly different cases.
