What's it calibrated for? Distance ahead, headlight alignment or ?? I don't recall having mine calibrated after installing a 2.5" lift with 35s? I don't use cruise control so maybe I'm just blinding oncoming traffic. How much difference would changing the windshield make to calibration?

Sorry, I'm just bored and curious - bad combination on a Saturday.

From my understanding, the calibration is for the Adaptive Cruise Control and all of the radar sensors. There are lots of other threads concerning lifts / windshield replacement and recalibration.
But, from my reading, recalibration is not needed because the sensors are attached to the ?sports bar? NOT the actual windshield...
* after reading several threads about this, seems a common denominator in the people being told by safelite that a calibration can not be completed is... they all had a tazer installed, once they unmarried it and tried the calibration again, it worked.

If you are curious about the process itself, there are youtube videos showing it.

A little more info:
What is ADAS?
ADAS stands for “Advanced Driver(s) Assistance Systems”. These systems rely upon cameras, lasers, and radar – often with the camera mounting to the windshield. Any time a new windshield is installed, the camera must be calibrated to ensure proper functionality and to restore the camera to OEM specifications.

Examples of ADAS applications are:
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Collision Warning
  • Blind Spot Monitoring
  • Park Assist
  • Automatic Cruise Control
  • Pedestrian Protection
  • Headlights Control

No need for calibration when installing a lift because the sensors are untouched. Calibration is needed when they remove the windshield because then the sensors attached to the top of the windshield have to be disconnected (I think).

You people must be blessed. Had less than 600 miles and three weeks on my 2023 JL Sport S when the windshield was cracked.

I just finished making an online appt. for Safelite to come to the house...

...to repair a chip in the windscreen of my wife's Honda. ?

I've taken a bit of guilty pleasure in reminding her that she's had at least one glass repair or replacement with each of the three CR-Vs that she's owned. Meanwhile, my JLU keeps humming along with the original windscreen. At least our Comprehensive line item maintains a $0 deductible for such matters.

PA is very prescriptive as it concerns the condition of vehicle glass, whether it be the presence of discernable cracks or especially the presence and darkness of tint on the first row windows. That particular issue cost me $80.00 some years ago ?, so this isn't anything that we could have procrastinated over...not that I would have done so anyway.

Same with us, about 2nd or 3rd week of ownership, was in the passing lane of I-55N getting past a semi, when 4 or 5 rocks came off his rear tires and bounced our way. 3 hit, including one loud POP to the passenger side of the windshield, leaving a ding. Next morning, it had about 1" of crack going north and south of the ding. Very soon after, it went the entire way, north and south, of the windshield. Just now getting it replaced. I'm VERY much considering one of those overlay films.

I don't know about other states, but you can drive around in Texas with a crack all across your window. As long as it doesn't affect the windshield wiper and destroy it, you're still legal. I was thinking I had to get my window replaced before November the past safety inspection, but as it turns out I don't. So I'll probably just run with mine with a big ass crack in the middle for the next couple years before I replace it.
I was hearing banjos in my head when I read this ? Just kidding, my friend! I’m a Florida country boy, after all!
