Hello Jeep Community,

I am just beginning my research into upgrading my stock plastic JLUR front bumper. Planning to get into off-roading more in 2020 and am thinking that a steel front bumper with a self-recovery winch would give me more confidence on the trails. Which JLUR front bumper options are out there, and who is happy with what? Also please let me know if there is a dedicated place on this forum with a complete listing of aftermarket bumpers. I do really like the look of Jeep's steel Rubi bumper, but I am sure there are equally sufficient bumpers out there for a faction of that cost (hopefully).

Thanks!

I got the SmittyBilt XRC Gen2 with the SB X20 12k/synthetic. Straight bolt on. Looks good and gets lots of attention. Also can take the factory fogs.

My JLUR came with the craplastic bumpers too. I REALLY liked the Mopar steel front bumper and found a local take-off at a great price (came with everything... LED fogs, red hooks, skid plate, and even came with a Warn winch plate). The Warn winch plate is solid, highly recommended. Really happy with the result.

Honestly, your best option is to scan through the aftermarket bumper thread and just find one you like. We can suggest bumpers all day long but we have no idea what your style is. I have probably scanned through the aftermarket bumper thread no less than a dozen times just looking at pictures trying to narrow down the list. But you'd be surprised how quickly you can scan through 63 pages if your just looking for pictures. Most aftermarket bumpers are going to be winch ready, but you'll want to double check before pulling the trigger on one.

Mine came with the Steel Bumpers. Looks like we have a similar set up. Steel bumper, warn Plate, Smittybilt X2O (mines a Comp 10K with the synthetic line) and I added the Warn Hook Stay style filler. Did you get the 10 or 12K?

I'm happy with the Rock Slide Engineering full bumper. It's solid and well built and the winch was easy to install. I didn't like that (as you can see from my photo) it sits lower on the Rubicon than the picture at Quadratec shows, and the switch for the X20 winch that I picked is tighter against the grill than I would prefer. I would still recommend it even with those couple of quibbles.

I've seen the various bumper threads and more and more I am liking the stock steel bumper. I am going to insist on this for my JLR order.

I do want to figure out some way to fill the gap between the bumper and frame now that I removed to piece if trim between them to mout the winch. Either modify the old piece to work in 2 sections or maybe attach some rubber to the bumper with the 2 bolts right behind the tow hooks

Exactly why I bought a stock steel take off. I wanted a stubby to mid width bumper with recessed winch and factory fog light provisions and they just didn't exist. Of course going with the stock steel bumper means I'll end up spending additional money on a winch plate, but I know it at least looks good. And just my luck, right after I bought the stock steel bumper, ACE Engineering comes out with a bumper that fit my criteria, that actually looks good.

Another thing to keep in mind is whether you want to keep your factory fog lights or not. Not all bumpers work with the factory fogs. Not all aftermarkets bumpers come with new fogs and you might have to buy additionally.

I am thinking of ordering that same bumper. Were you able to wire it in so that you could control using factory switch, or did you just mount the after market control? If so, where did you mount it. How have you liked that bumper?
