Again, not arguing that can happen. So can a myriad of other things during an accident. It just does not happen very often...
Black swans are events with low probability of happening but large impacts. Worth a little insurance to further tip the scale in our favor and protect from the impact.

Adding a high current relay or fused is cheap insurance.

Funny how our brains discount black swans. Look no further than the guidance to always fuse a thin wire powering an LED light but to wire a high current motor directly to the battery.

OP, a lot of people, myself included, installed a seperate solenoid triggered by an aux switch. Look on here, there is a walkthrough.
So it’s just a generic Ford style starter solenoid wired to the factory auxiliary switch that acts as a winch power disconnect? I’ll need to try and find the tutorial on this forum about that.

That guidance I would avoid at all costs. In fact I went even further by fusing my starter wire. It always bothered me that GM's factory wiring and grounds are horrible. They cause all kinds of electrical issues.

I went through all circuits and harness to insure it's safe. One of the modifications I make to all my vehicles is fusing all the large wires, clean/secure all factory chassis grounds and run all my accessory grounds directly to battery.

I modified this busbar and factory wiring through RVC to insure a safe and efficient charging system.

Note that I increased the size of my grounds to mach my power wires.

Went from 10 gauge to 1/0 in order to better regulate grounding amps going from alternator through RVC.

Every single power wire coming off both batteries is fused and circuit breaker/fuses for all the smaller wires. Battery disconnect is automatic and I can pull up voltage anytime through bluetooth via solar charge controller.

It's not a Jeep but the same concept for any vehicle when you are wiring up for function and safety.

Couple of things make the winch wiring more susceptible to fire beyond the fact that most accidents result in front end damage: it's way out front and most folks don't run the wiring in wire loom to protect it from chaffing or abrasion.

Just installed my winch and a solenoid wired to my AUX 1 button. This in a 2021 2.0. JLUR.

Can you tell me what solenoid you used for that?

Thank you David. It was a lot of effort but worth it. Some of the guys on this forum are doing some even nicer work on their Wranglers. A lot of attention to detail for sure.

I got this one off Amazon. Higher amps then the one Warn sells in its kit and way cheaper.

The solenoid in the Warn power interrupt kit is rated at 500 amps. And for $90, it also comes with all of the necessary peripherals like the short battery jumper cables, the smaller gage kicker wires, and even a power switch and mount for those who don't have factory aux switches.

where did you come up with that amp rating? Warn doesn’t list one. I highly doubt that one is rated for 500 continuous amps.
you can buy a battery jumper cable for like $5 and no need for the switch they provide if have the AUX switches. No need to spend $90 on the warn one.
