Lighting harness disconnect

Trying to install a fuel door. Is there a trick to disconnecting the taillight wiring harness? I slid the red locking clip up but the harness won’t separate. What am I missing?

You slide the red locking clip and then you need to press in firmly on the black H shaped affair...and then separate the connection.

Yep. Saw that video and tried that. Still no joy. So I just figured out a workaround.

I stacked a small box on the bumper and the wiring is just long enough to rest comfortably and stay attached while I worked behind it. ?
