Wider Grille Mesh Now Standard?

So...after retrofitting the small mesh panels in my JL grille with the wider ones from a JT, it appears that this is now standard on all of the new JLs on my dealer's lot. Sport, Sport-S, Willys, Sahara, Rubicon, 392, 4xe, High Altitude....all had the wider mesh. I assume this a recent design change to the stock grilles, but also curious about why they switched. Is there really a demonstrated benefit to engine cooling, or was it logistically simpler to manufacture one style instead of two?

I could live with it if there is a benefit, but I don't care for the look and it seems like the radiator would take on gradual damage from rocks finding their way through

So weird...the dealership here had at least 15 different brand new JLs on the lot, and all had the wider mesh. Congrats and enjoy!

Did you take that photo from your home in PA while it was coming out of the factory?! It's really hard to see the mesh.

It's in my garage....the lighting wasn't great...I can try to get a better shot in a bit.

Grrr. I already ordered and received my Mopar hood lock with the replacement mesh pieces. Really hope they match what ends up being delivered on my Jeep.

Those are def smaller than mine. IMO it looks better, but can't imagine trying to clean them out when they get dirty. I "tried" to clean mine when I changed doors out this weekend and washed it, but gave up after using a scrub brush and realized it wasn't working.

Integrated front camera comes with wider mesh. Maybe that's why all the Jeeps on the dealer lot had it. Engine options might require it as well. My 4xe came with the wider mesh.

I thought the same thing at first, but at least half of these new JLs had no camera.

I just took delivery of my 2022 Willys Sport three weeks ago (after ordering it in JANUARY!), and it has the smaller mesh screen behind the grill as well.
