Here's a quick informative video on the capabilities of USB-C. Makes me really glad we have it on the new JL.

USB-C Explained

Highlights include:

1. Reversible (plugs in the right way every time)
2. Can power full size electronics
3. Faster data transfer
4. Universal
5. Smaller
6. It's the new standard

#1 alone does it for me. When I got my new phone with USB-C I was instantly impressed at how quick and easy it is to plug up. Micro-USB (and others) seemed predicated on a design of:
A) attempt to plug into device; nope!
B) flip plug over and try to plug into device; nope again!
C) flip over again back to original and plug in - success!

And, of course, D) over time accept that cable end and/or female receptacle in device will grow loose and not make solid contact.

I thought the new iPhone X was USB-C, but apparently it uses the Lightning charging cable.

Has anyone confirmed how much power the USB-C port in the jeep can actually supply? Just because the spec says it can supply a ton of power doesn’t mean all ports do. I’d hope that this port will provide the full 100w allowed for charging laptops etc, but I’m not super optimistic on that.

My Moto Z says that it is not full power. It quickly powers from a plug, but slowly from the dash

Yup, it definitely does not provide the full powering which defeats the purpose tbh. At home I usually get 0-60% of battery in a 30min charge. In the JL, not so much...

Do you get a slow charge on all the USBs in the JL? Mine charges slower than any vehicle I've ever had.

So far I've only used the USB-C and yes, it used to charge faster on my 15 Cherokee with just a regular USB. Pretty disappointing

One downside to USB-C is that different cables have different capabilities. You may have to do some research to find what cable you need for faster charging (although I suspect if it charges slowly it’s due to the Jeep connector not being powered as high as it could be) or faster data transfers.

One universal connector to rule them all (mostly) but cables will still be messy.

All modern electronics are going to USB-C.

My phones have had that port for years now.

Others will surely follow. Except Apple phones. Because they are Nazis with their proprietary practices.
I have a current generation MacBook Pro (been using it for about 18 months) and the USB-C port is the only port on the computer, including for charging the computer. Apple also makes USB-C cables for the iPhone or iPad. Their lighting connector is also universal so plugging it in either way works. The lighting connector is also more compact than the USB-C, which was Apple's design criteria behind it given how small and thin smart phones have become, long before the USB-C standard was on the market.

Have the S8+. Fast charge can be done by plugging in the cell phone's AC charging adapter into the Jeep's AC outlet located on the rear of the console. Plenty of current there. :)
