Why are knuckle lights never discussed or installed?

Hey don't make fun of my ice scraper. I actually use it. Oh, and for some of us, a 1in extension is a godsend.
I tell you these guys you just can't make them happy if there was any other way to get a one inch extension at $30 an inch they'd all have a 3rd leg.

our BMW had the Adaptive Lights that would point into a turn based on speed and steering wheel input; yes, distracting at first, but you adapt to it quickly and it worked fantastically (when it worked; BMW, right?).

that said, i can't imagine knuckle lights pointing where i need them when i need them, or surviving for long where we play.

Driving lights that turn with your wheels aren’t a bad idea, but every real world review I've read about knuckle lights is that their placement is just flawed. Lights up the sidewall or the rear of the bumper (unless it’s a stubby), doesn’t help that much on the road (not nearly enough throw/distance if you’re driving > 45), more likely to blind a spotter offroad (or just throws light in the wrong area), risk of catching a rock or tree limb, et cetera.

Having driven cars that have headlights that adjust to hills and turns, those can be… distracting when the light shifts.

Never got used to it on a BMW, but I only drove it a fortnight.

These wouldn't be the main lights and would be attached to the AUX switch to use on a as needed basis.
I see the A pillar cubes as getting in the way physically and line of sight, so those are not happening.

Like I said i definitely understand the skepticism but they are right by the brake lines so whatever might hit them would otherwise hit brake lines

I would imagine that their effectiveness is greatly diminished when running factory backspacing on wheels. The ones that I see getting any real usability from them are using wheels that have far less backspacing allowing more room for the light to spread.

I don't see them working well at all for spotting deer on the roadside though regardless of the wheels and tires. It's like using horse blinders with your lights, the tires will keep you from having any decent throw from the right light to the ditches. So you are left with the light on the opposite knuckle, and it's pointed forward, so it would need an impressive spread to be effective at hitting the ditch on the other side of the vehicle.

understood. it's odd at first.
one good hour on a dark lonely mountain road did it for me.

frankly, i was impressed with how well BMW had worked out the algorithm that managed how the lamps would turn ahead of your turn based on speed and steering wheel angle to keep the lights pointed where you were looking.
no fixed-mount lamp would compare.

i don't know what they'd "get in the way of".
i use a cowl-bracket mount (partly so they don't interfere with the ability to lower the windshield,) and can't see them at all when driving.

i've honestly only known a couple of people that have tried them; they've both had failures related to stuff flying around and damaging the lamps. one has repaired his a couple of times already; the other gave up on them. neither has found the benefit to be worth the effort, but thought they 'looked cool'.
if nothing else, playing with motorcycles has made me familiar with the amount of stuff that's flying down close to the roads. (think about all the stuff that makes it all the way up to our windshields; the closer you are to to the road surface, the more stuff there is flying around!)

My main worry with any add on lights are their longevity, I'm just floating the idea in my head.
I have third party marker lights in a box in my garage for a year now..we'll see if these ever get beyond the thinking stage.

Moose eyes are reflective... they're just taller than the headlight beam typically and so the light doesn't catch the reflective layer in their eyes.
Perhaps there would be less moose collisions if their sacks were reflective??? 🤔
