I was offroading over the weekend, I noticed my steering wheel is not center. I looked underneath and saw my steering damper was bent. Plan to replace the steering damper but where do you guys go to get a wheel alignment? I'm talking about the toe/caster alignment. Can I just go to any Firestone or Mechanic to get it done? I have a 2023 Rubicon XR with the 2 inch stock lift.

I use a reputable shop that works on 4x4 after all kinds of issues with run of the mill alignment shops.

The only adjustable things on a stock Wrangler are toe and centering the steering wheel (i.e., drag link). Caster is not adjustable, though can be changed with non-stock parts.

If your steering is off center, something in addition to the steering damper is bent or damaged. A bent stabilizer might bind or leak but won't affect toe or center. It would be a good idea to figure out what is bent or damaged and if it is okay/safe, before getting it aligned. I would not trust a typical alignment shop to inspect for bent parts. I think the only time they might notice something is wrong is if they can't crank everything into alignment. So ditto on taking it to a reputable 4x4 repair shop.

The problem I have with alignment shops is their "technicians" have no idea about anything other than looking at the numbers on the screen and cranking things until they turn green. The biggest problem I have had has been about them adjusting the caster on a solid front axle. They seem blissfully unaware that you cannot change the cross caster by cranking one side one way and the other the other way, even though the numbers on their machine tells them it changed. But this isn't anything you need to worry about with the stock or Mopar 2" lift unadjustable control arms. I also don't trust the equipment very far. I've seen them set toe, then adjust it to something else (I wanted to see where 0 toe was), then set the adjustment back exactly where it had been and the numbers on the screen (toe and thrust angle) were different. Not confidence inspiring.

Thanks for the reply - I'm not sure if I need an alignment because the car drives straight even though the steering wheel is off center.

Here's a bit more detail that might help.

Once I drove it onto pavement, the ESC started to blink and my steering wheel wasn't center. Then the CEL turned on (not blinking) and a message appeared saying to Service Electronic Stability Control. I wasn't able to turn off stability control.

Then I looked under the jeep and saw the damage on the damper. Definitely will replace it, but wanted to see if adjusting the draglink would turn off the ESC message. Did that last night, and luckily the light turned off. I marked the rotation, so once I replace the stabilizer, I'll rotate it back.

Not sure what else to check, but I'll look for a local 4x4 shop to inspect for me

A 15mm wrench is all you need to correct your steering. Mine will do that too (be off-center) if I turn the wheel against obstacles on the trail so I keep a 15mm in the glovebox.

It's a straightforward job that includes recentering the steering wheel and providing a full readout of all alignment measurements—especially the critical caster angle. If you're particular about having the steering wheel perfectly centered, a quick 5-minute tweak with a 15mm wrench and a pipe wrench is an easy DIY adjustment.

Based on the description of your setup, your caster will be too low and you'll need longer LCAs to make it right. For me, the 24.5" (Mopar lift kit) ones were not long enough and I went with adjustable Teraflex LCAs to get to 6°

I recommend you do it yourself. Easy to do and you will probably do as good or better than most fast food shops. Watch some videos.
