Wheel Locks

After consulting with the "boss" wife, I ordered the chrome set of 24 and they will be here on Sunday. I took one of my current lugs off and there should not be any fitment issue with the XR rims. The boss said I needed just a little chrome on the rig and I agreed.

Wondering if you have the part # to the Gorilla set you ended up purchasing. I have an XR also and wanted to get locks for the same reason as you.

I do not see the need on the wheel with the lack of value of a set of stock wheels. I do use a lock on the spare. IMO too easy to zip zip zip with a impact and walk off with it.

I have the Gorillas too because I don't have a garage; I have a space in a carport open to anyone at any time who can walk right up to my Jeep. I got the black ones cuz I searched (@ that time) & couldn't find the chrome. This is what the black ones look like; personally I'd prefer the chrome.

The Gorilla ones don't seem to be "locking" so much to anyone who may possess an actual socket set, hammer, and breaker bar.
Are these just for looks or is this a serious option ?
I just can't imagine a full set of sockets not easily grabbing all of them off about as fast as regular nuts
But, I've been wrong before ?

I tried to use a socket on one of mine before installing and could not find one that would do any good FWIW

Fair enough, Good deterrent either way to move on to the next vehicle and skip the one with a whole set of locks and besides they do look really nice

They are locking and you do need the key - but they also make non-locking lugs.

You can do what you describe - get a socket, hammer it into the key and then use the breaker bar to take it off. It has been done, however you're gonna have to do that 5 times per wheel so that's 23 sockets in total (5X4 + 3 for spare). They take too long to remove from the socket after you've mashed it in.

As mentioned, its really a deterrent. Nothing stopping them from taking the entire Jeep.

What I like about Gorilla is you can order extra keys (they give you the number).

If the wheel lock sticks out significantly past the rim, you can use a pipewrench of even channel locks to take them off. There have ones where there is a collar around the lug so if you try the channel lock trick, it just spins.

If the thief really wants your wheels, they are gonna get them. the idea is to make it so inconvenient, that they move on to someone else's who's setup is easier to take (no locks).

Yes but it will take them a while to take off 20 of them if every lug on every wheel has 5...
