What is the recommended wheel lock for our Jeeps? I have a 22 Rubicon with the Xtreme Recon tire package. I know that if a thief wants something bad enough they will figure out how to steal it. I live in a safe neighborhood but lately, crime is on the rise. Looking for peace of mind.

I just heard of a lock in which the exterior of the lock spins, so if the thief tries to hammer on a socket it will simply spin. How well it works…I have no idea. But definitely a good idea. Unfortunately, I have no idea the company that sells it.

Nevermind…after a quick Googling it appears you can simply break off the spinning piece and thief as normal.

Use any lock that you like that work with your wheels. Gorilla locks are good and I use them. There's really no consensus.

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know what seat type is used on the Xtreme Recon wheels?

Thieves use the socket that tire shops have to deal with locking lugs where the key tool was lost. They send a guy out to remove the lugs, then a truck comes a little while later with two guys and 2 floor jacks. They are done in about 45 seconds.

The best thing would probably be a set of splined lugs, which would be a real pain in the ass to remove them all. If you have a garage, clean it out and park in there. Thieves like to shop at night in nice neighborhoods because that's where all the good stuff is. Jeeps don't usually get targeted though, it's the GM trucks and SUVs with 22" wheels that get hit the hardest.

A few minutes on YouTube watching mechanics remove wheel locks will be very informative.

On my enclosed trailer that sits mostly unattended I use splined lug nuts. IMO those are more challenging without the correct socket than a single lock.

I chose the spline drive style of lugs from McGard, and added the extra 3 for the spare.

The spinning type lock nuts are Gorilla X2. The top end spins and the splines have to be lined up with the bottom half splines, using the key before you can spin the lug on or off. I had them on a corvette, and they were fairly secure. My only issue with them is that a tire shop would use an impact on them and spin the outer or top end before it would be lined up with the bottom and it would trash out the internal rubber o ring. After the o ring was shot the end would rattle. Gorilla would send a replacement locking lug nut, but that became a hassle. I put the McGard wheel locks on my JL. They might slow someone down that is stealing them.
