Why? It's easy and fits in a closet.
X2, like this but with Coleman white gas two burner stove and Costco's version of Yeti ice chest. I've got rainfly for the tent, medium weight sleeping back and one of those rollup 5/8" thick 'pads', I try to remember to bring a real pillow cause folded up sweatshirt or jacket is kinda hard on my melon. lol. :)

Had a really nice tentcot, but sold it after couple years because I'm tall and it tended to roll me into the center and jack up my back and shoulders. Like a traditional hanging hammock but much worse!

I bought this used ambulance a month ago and am in the process of converting it to an RV. When done, it will house me, my girlfriend, and my dog on weekend camping trips in the Idaho woods. Having a custom Class V hitch welded up so it will tow my Jeep or two ATVs.

Some of these ambulance/camper conversions are amazing...

I always forget a pillow and just roll up clothes. I agree it's not great for the melon

do you carry your sleeping bag in a bag?
stuff some of your extra clothes in that; instant pillow.

i actually found sleeping bag cases that are lightly fleeced on the inside, so turn those inside out and they make a nicer pillow.

Yep. That is how I do it. But on short weekend trips, "extra clothes" usually consist of a rain jacket and boxers. Not enough to make for a good pillow.

Shirt stuffed in the underwear for sure. That's how you know if you need to wear fresh ones.

When I was a young man, I would camp off of horseback in the Idaho mountains. Just a rolled up sleeping bag, a small tarp, and a saddle for my pillow. It was fine.

Today, if I tried that, I would be in the hospital for a week and need physical therapy for six months, lol.
