VVT Solenoid seals

Getting ready to do spark plugs (second attempt lol) on my 3.6, noticed a little weeping on the passenger side VVT seal, not a full on leak/drip but must have some thing there as dirt sticks. Worth replacing or is that just how they are? Did some research and found people with nearly new ones reporting the same thing. Is it just as easy as unbolting the solenoid and swapping out the seal? Do both sides? Thanks!

So, as on mine, with 8000 miles, I have what is leftover sealnt on the transfer case which "looks" like a leak at first glance, its not, just to much goo during assembly.

Unless It is seeping, I'd leave it alone.

I replaced mine about 8000 miles on the passenger side as it was weeping enough to bug me...so far so good..the driver's side has not started weeping yet knock on wood...super easy to replace once you get the heater hose lines that run over the top moved out of the way held in place by 4 nuts.. the hardest thing for me was getting the electrical connector undone...the one bolt for the solenoid needs to be removed and then it pulls straight up...the seal pulls out and then just push the new one in place. the seal is dirt cheap as far as jeep stuff goes......

My 2018 3.6L had that same issue on the passenger side with low miles on it. Making sure that I got the right size o-ring, I just replaced it with a new one that came with o-rings already on it (link below). After replacing it and cleaning around it, the oil stain never returned. If this is what you are talking about (photos below). The toughest part was getting the electrical connection disconnected. After that, it is just a matter of removing the bolt and pulling it out.

I think the one I posted is the rear sensor.

yes its quick swap out. i havent had issues since replacement of mine

Just noticed I'm in the same position now. I'll consider almost 90,000 miles out of my seals as a pretty good run. Not sure how long they've been allowing oil to seep out but doesn't seem to have been too long.

Either way, looks like I need to replace the VVT solenoid seals and the camshaft position sensor seals on both sides. By my untrained eye, there looks to be one on each side of the engine (2 of each seal, 4 seals total). Is that correct? I also have to try and find a PCV valve which is like trying to find a needle in a haystack right now apparently.

Unfortunately they are also seeping oil. I assume, based on your comment, that you had to fight with them? Did you eventually get them in or did you have to take it to a shop/dealership?
