Removed exhaust system to replace with a new stainless system. Having a major problem getting the v band back on. I can get the band on only if I remove the nut completely but then I can't compress it enough to put the nut back on. Naturally I can't drive the rig anywhere till exhaust is replaced. Need some ideas!

Usually you need to go loosen up more of the exhaust. Start your connections from the front near the engine and work your way to the back. There is a lot of play in the bands. But if you tighten everything down snug going from the rear to front you end up fighting it. Sometimes it's gotta all just be barely together and then you need to finesse it together a little at a time.

You gotta play with it...

Cue the jokes

Actually it's the v band from turbo to new exhaust. Nothing else installed until I secure this band.

Is the new exhaust pipe larger in diameter or thicker at the flange than the original?

That makes no sense to me. Only things I can think of is they sent you the wrong fitment. Or somehow the piece came far enough out of their welding fixture that it's got you all messed up.

I've put on and taken off a bunch of V-bands on different vehicles and sometimes they can be difficult they have always gone back on. And for your very first one to give you fits? Somethings not right.

I have torn my thumbs up on the band trying to put it in place and I'm thinking it's me. I'm 79 and have MS so I just don't have the strength I used to have. I'm going to ask a few friends for help tomorrow.
Thanks for the thoughts.
