My suggestion would be to figure out what you're interested in doing and then google it with Utah in your search. We have rock gardens, desert, waterfalls, national forests, world-class trails, etc..

I just rolled over 25,000 miles and my jeep is not my daily driver. Probably have 17,500 miles of off-road in Utah and I've probably explored 20% of Utah....albeit off-road!
This is a great point - I have run 4,000 miles off-road in Utah and feel like I have not even scratched the surface! Also respectfully disagree Moab is crowded - there is lots of room to spread out. Moab is so much more than Fins, Hells, and Arches.

We are planning a trip out to Moab in early July and we recognize it will be 100+ degrees. (It's a dry heat - LOL). Looking for recommendations for level 1 or 2 trails given we're new to off-roading. Also, any lessons learned would be nice!

Plan for limited/no cell reception on the trail. Make sure you nav sources allow off network use, and download the map data. We use a Garmin inReach mini for emergency satellite communication.

Extra water.

Stay somewhere with a pool, lol.

Take a cooler with lots of cold drinks. Start your day as early as you can. If you are staying close to your vehicle you have the benefit of A/C.

Check this thread for trail recommendations. Also I think it worthwhile to get the FunTreks book, it breaks down the trails by difficulty level.

If this is your first time to Moad there are lots of tourist things you can do and see without even getting on any trails, but if you have a Jeep you won't be able to resist.

Lol I’ll do my best not to break down. I’ll add all of this to my list.

Good point, I admittedly have not thought about a satellite phone or anything. I am going to grab a new spare for my truck so I’m set there. Apple has satellite service now, so that’s a help I hadn’t considered yet. I just tested it, it does work.

There you go. Always be prepared for an oh crap situation. Speaking of oh crap, that area got a lot of water this winter & spring. When doing your gas management always consider the possibility of a rockslide or washout making the trail impassible. That can add a significant amount of surprise miles to your route.

And be very wary of mud. Utah mud is evil and it is skilled at eating vehicles. It's both very slick and peanut butter glue, whichever one you don't want at that particular moment.

Moab is here! I didn’t update this so well and have a ton of info and photos. Went up through Arches yesterday and down willow creek (easy AF), went up onion creek today, I like water crossings also incredibly easy. But it was fun to go like 30-40mph whipping through there. Started poison spider, wife threw a fit and she was probably right lol. Only got like 10 minutes in. Having a good time, there’s a lot of trails here!

lol all of my photos are too big for this website so I’m going to have to scale them down first. I have some drone photos I took in 4K as well. Unfortunately the footage I thought i was taking on poison spider didn’t record, my drone just followed me for fun.
