I'm contemplating installing a dedicated 50A circuit and 40A capable EVSE in my garage just in case I go full EV in the future. I know that the 4xe is limited to a max. of 32A so I'm assuming the controller in the Jeep will automatically limit the current draw to 32A and the EVSE will deliver 32A or do certain EVSE's need to be manually configured/ limited to 32A vs. 40? Trying to confirm if there is a standard protocol that ensures an EVSE will not deliver a higher amperage than the vehicle charger can handle?

You are correct. Your Jeep will limit the incoming. I have a 40A charger installed

Thank you for confirming. Can I ask brand/ model of charger you have?

Appreciate the feedback. I've been looking at the Autel, Chargepoint, Juicebox and Clipper Creek units. I want a box that is UL and Energy Star certified.

Mopar is just a rebranded Juicebox and it's limited to 32A.

I like the Juicebox for everything except for the cord. The cord is very stiff, especially in the cold. The Costco variant has a shorter cord which I prefer.

All the cords that thick are stiff cold :).

I got my Autel on Black Friday, all in I paid $425 and it’s got a ton of great features. In fact I wirelessly set it to charge at 10 amps for battery preservation. When I need a faster charge I bump it up with a few clicks.I was skeptical because I got it so cheap, been extremely happy. They have sales all the time on it too

Thanks for the heads-up! That's a really good price for a smart, 40A EVSE.
Is trickle charging recommended for Lithium-Ion battery packs? I'm still reading through the supplement guide.

We have two Grizzl-e chargers; 50A circuit running at 40A. Made in Canada and pretty stout. Bare bones with no fancy features, but works great.

From my understanding the faster charging can cause quicker degradation in the battery. I only set it lower when time isn’t an issue because who cares even if it doesn’t impact! That said if I have a quick turn around and want more charge, I don’t concern myself too much, I just charge it faster

I've read good reviews about the Grizzl-e unit, especially if you plan to install it outdoors.

If you get changing faults at 40A change your settings to 32A. My son's 2022 4xe will not change on his Chargepoint set at 40A and mine will.
