I had a early 2021 392 3:73 gears and ordered a XR 392 4:56 gears as soon as the order was able to be placed. To me I would never want to get one with 3:73 gears again, just my opinion.
I traded in my 2021 non XR 392 for a 2021 XR 392 build date on door is 12/21 and I am running 37” Nitto Ridge Grapplers on Raceline Defender wheels. The only thing is I wish it had a bigger fuel tank, I did not buy it for the fuel mileage but compared to my Raptor with a 36 gallon tank the Jeep just requires more frequent fuel stops. There have been a few 2021 392 XR`s for sale on this forum along with other areas

I have had several more trail days since then and I honestly am impressed with it and not sure it needs anything else. I am sure it is slower 0-60 but it's not a race car.

The dealership owner and I took both of them out one with me driving and once with him driving and did the same with the service manager, the two of them were at odds about what gearing was best. As long as you're happy with it is all that matters and from the picture it looks like you are having a great time!

It may be the fact that I am used to a lot faster vehicles. I just don't expect much from the Jeep, on the street and I am someone who has spent a lot of money chasing 2.7 seconds 0-60s. I haven't found any issues offroad with the gearing. Who knows, I may re'gear at some point to see if I'm missing something.

Yer awful accepting- after 35’s this old muscle car guy couldn’t stand the 1/2 step in lost performance with 3.73’s, 4.56’s added a full step. ? only 1/4 mi. and 1 foot perfection acceptable ?

Why did you buy/sell instead of just gearing it?

Its weight related... mine is every bit as quick on (lighter) 35"s vs my stocker 33"s, gets out of the hole every bit as hard =)

That’s what I thought when I chose to not reorder. With the minimal XR 392 upgrades compared to the long list of upgrades for a Willys I regeared and got 35’s for about the same $4K. Regrettably 4cyl doesn’t disable in OR+ on non XR’s and the dealer has been unable to reflash the upgrade, but hasn’t given up… yet. ? he chose well, even if unintentionally.

Light 59 lb Toyo’s, butt dyno indicated a 1/2 step loss. A good excuse for 4.56’s whether actual or a delusion anyway. ?

oh wow - I didn’t know that about OR+ disabling 4cyl mode in the XRs.
I geared my 21 to 4.88 for 38s.
Livernois is an option for the cylinder deactivation…but not sure I care that much.

Fun is why I bought it ! You are correct sir, it pulled the 35’s just fine, but there is a noticeable performance difference with the 4.56’s ? … That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it. ? … don’t mess with my excuse ?

See 392 cam/lifter issues , MDS is a highly suspect factor. I always run my 15 GCSRT in “Sport Mode” that disables it. If the Livernois tune is still CARB compliant with disable it Will Be done upon warranty expiration. I hope my shifter doesn’t wear out before then going in and out of manual shift to minimize 4cyl ?

I have a 392 XR in Reign. It looks good, it’s fun to drive and plenty fine to daily. The gas bill is a little high, but it’s offset by the fun of driving it.
