I have a pretty cherry 2020 Sahara Unlimited with the 2.0. I bought it used back in Jan 2023. It was an Enterprise rental. It now has just over 30K on it.

I have not had any mechanical issues with it, and Jeep has been kind enough to take care of all the corrosion issues (I'm on my 2nd visit to the body shop in a few days, close to $8 grand in paint, labor and parts). They also replaced the rear window because of the broken electric connection.

I installed all new tires about 4K miles ago, and have upgraded to OEM LED taillights, front turn & DRL's, Rough Country LED Headlights and Oracle LED fog lamps. I replaced the 8.4 head with one from a 2023 Gladiator and repaired a few minor things that you'd expect to find broken or damaged in a rental car.

Just to kill a little time, I started internet shopping and I have located a 2024 that is currently in transit to the dealer. It is also a Sahara Unlimited. It is got all of the nice safety features and technology features and well as the cold weather package.....all of which are non existent in my 2020.

The Jeep dealer is stuck on the window sticker, but I've been offered the same amount as I paid for the 2020 from an independent used car dealer. With that cash & another $23K I can drive home a 2024 with all of the options that I'd like to have.

Is it worth it to have an new ride again and all new warranty?

If you can break even on the 2020 it would be tempting considering that you don't know how abused the rental was and what potential issues you might have in the future. On the flip side, with high interest rates right now, take a look at what your new monthly payment would be vs what you currently have and then decide if you think it is still worth it.

You can add seat heaters if you are ambitious. The tech and safety features are nice, but not nearly nice enough for an extra $23 k. The new screen, while sharper, doesn't do much that the 8.4 did.

With that $23k, and with the market down, you could add an extra $200k to your retirement. Or buy some distressed property, rent it out, and have passive income for the rest of your life.

Everything is about opportunity costs.

The used car dealer offered me $1K less than I paid for it. So I'd be out the $1K and probably $3000 in tires, small repairs and upgrades. Fortunately there would not be any payments.

Right now, I have myself talked into doing it.

This all the way.

It’s really what you are comfortable with. My finances changed allowing me to swap a ‘ 21 for a ‘23 with exactly everything thing I wanted in the color I prefer. Yup it cost more than upgrading the 21, but to me it was 100% worth it

of course you don't need it. I'm sure 23k will fix any problem you may have in the future with this 2020. you are not guarantee to have issues, could also get extended warranty.

You are only trying to buy the brand new experience for 23k, other than that they are essentially the same thing, If you go do it test drive they drive exactly the same too.

Cost benefit analysis would say no but how bad do you really want it?

Edit: oh you are retied? then do whatever that pleases you, life is too short to save 23k. might as well add 10k more for a rubicon.

It is definitely a "want" more than a need.

Why not just order from one of the dealers that will give you 7% off invoice price and get all the exact options you want?
That was my plan & I spoke with them this morning. Unfortunately they can not order the 2.0L now. Jeep is saving them all for the 4xe.

This one has everything I am looking for except the trailer tow package. Thats OK, the kit is easy to install.

I vote do it. You’re back in warranty in a new ride. Does it make the absolute best financial sense? No. But that would be selling your Jeep and buying the cheapest thing you can find with a prayer of being reliable. YOLO.

Everyone has their reasons for upgrading, I say why not if it`s not going to force you to eat beans and hot dogs or give up something else in your life, that`s it your life and why do people lift a Jeep that will not even see a stone drive way, it`s because it makes them happy.
If you were in the market for a German car you could buy a VW or a Porsche both will get you where you need to go, will you be doing 150 mph down the road? maybe but most likely not all of the time but the possibility exsists. If you want it go for it. You can go on and on about the differance between the model years. You will be starting off with a new Jeep that either you build or take one off the lot. Just look at all of the items available for a Wrangler, do you need a $10k lift? do you need Dana 60`s? or coil over suspension on a Wrangler that goes straight to the shop from the dealer.
It`s all out there and build it as you want and if you notice to all of the people that downplay or put down aftermarket parts, engine swaps etc. you notice that the companies are not just making and selling one part or modification they would be out of busniess if they did so people are buying to make their Jeep unique in their own way and some never use any of the items they put on. I know I went long with this but do what makes you happy, enjoy what you buy and buy what you enjoy

Do it. You're retired. Assuming your finances are sound, $23k is not going to change your life much, if at all. Enjoy the new ride.
