I'm replacing my stock 285x70x17 Wildpeaks with 35x12.5x17 mudders on my 23 JL Rubicon. I believe the stock cast rims are 17x7.5 with a 6.25" back spacing/44mm offset. Can I use a 17x9.5 with a 5", 4.75, or will I need 4.5" back spacing?

Replaced 285/70’s with 35/12.50’s - the tread was ~even with the edge of the fenders. Then replaced the stock 7 1/2”44mm with 8 1/2” -1mm (~ 1.7” more poke) and the tread is ~even with the added XR extensions.

Do they rub at full articulation?

stock 1 1/2” lift and no “full articulation” situation, I don’t hunt for them, just “go where the road takes me” sorry.

With the Rubicon, wider axles, any of them Back spacings will work. It just depends on how far out that you want the tires to stick out.

That’s pretty agressive and will make your Jeep look like old school roller skates. Stay with 8.5 inch width max with +12mm offset and even then, the tires will stick out enough to justify a set of XR fender extentions.

If his chosen wheels are available in ~12-20mm mine weren’t, I was a bit nervous, but the tread doesn’t stick out past the extensions :whew: He’s OK to about the common 0 offset with extensions.

After reading this and now I'm worried.
I ordered new wheels and plan on getting new tires
OEM on my Sport was 245/75R17, 17x7.5", 44mm or 45 OS, and I forget what the backspacing is for OEM.
New:
275/70R17 17x9, -6mm OS, 4.7" BS.
Are these going to stick out like crazy?
(Thanks and I hope I didn't hijack the thread. New member here, new Jeep owner as of last week. I've been meaning to post just an introduction thing)

Your Sport has the standard axle width, so with 275's and 4.7 Back Spacing it should be just fine..👍

TY Old Dogger. I don't mind them sticking out a little, but I was going crazy hoping they wouldn't look stupid.

You may need to define “a little.” You’re moving 2.5” to 3” outboard over stock. Your axles are narrower, but your fenders are narrower as well. Should be fine, but don’t be shocked 👍

Depends on your definition of crazy. They will stick out 3.42" from where they are now.

Thank you Reinen. Maybe I'm mistaken but I believe a 275/70R17 is a 33"x11", not quite so large as 35"x12.5". (I will not claim to be anywhere near an authority on wheels tires or general mechanics/suspension)
