Ultimate Dana 60 Full Float vs. Semi-Float

I am about to order a set of Ultimate Dana 60s. I have a 21 JLU 2.0 with 40-inch tires and 5 inches of lift. I do 50% off road, up to black trails. I am planning a trip to Moab. I plan on getting 5.38 gears with E-lockers. I was wondering what everyone recommends, should I get full float or semi float? Price isn't a concern; I want what is best.

Your right. What width? However, I didn't see different width options on the Dana site. I assumed that they came the same width as stock...

UD60's only come in one width. I think it's 69.5. I just got my Jeep back from having them installed.

UD 60's with 4.5" back spacing. I believe I saw a instagram post from Dana indicating that they are going to start producing 72" wide axles soon. With that said, I am plenty happy with my 69.5" width.

Hi,

Full float the wheel stays on the vehicle if the axle shaft breaks.

Semi float the wheel comes off With axle shaft, brakes, etc.

Full float! If price isn't a concern I'd consider other manufacturers such as Dynatrac or Fusion etc. With stock width axles you have to run a wheel with bigger offset to clear big tires from the frame/body and such. A 72" axle for example you'll be able to run a less offset wheel which will result in less scrub radius and much better driving experience yet keeping a similar overall width. Also "Dana" axles are good but other manufacturers have way beefier castings, tubes, and other internals than the Dana axles for just a little bit more money. Just my 2 cents! Good luck!

Yep spend a little more and get way better axles. I'd get 60/14b or 80 by Dynatrac or Fusion/ECJ's. I'd get bare and have a off road fab shop brackets for better Geometry.

Just installed a set of fusions in our JK and they are unbelievably way beefier than our friends Dana 60 axles. I went with kingpin 60 front and fusions new 13bolt rear (based off corporate 14bolt) 35 spline shafts front and 40 spline rear, fully loaded axles ready to bolt in for just under 20k

-38, and I’m super happy with the Dana’s. Had a few issues with the place that installed them, but they made it right. Drives smooth, steering is great. I spent about 4 months doing research on Dana, Dynatrac, and fusion. At the end of the day the Dana was what I wanted. They’ve been around forever, I know how to work on them, and I really couldn’t see how the other brands are better for the money. Not saying they aren’t better, and not saying they aren’t good products. Except for Spicer they are both owned by ECGS. It really comes down to preference. I talked to a lot of people with the Spicer that are harder on them then I’ll ever be and they’ve had zero issues.

The full-float is the strongest option. The only reason to use the semi-float is so you could use your existing 5 bolt wheels and brakes. The full-float version is an 8 lug wheel bolt pattern.
