This topic (from a search) has been hit very few times and is not a huge technical mod just some measurements and a cut off grinder. However we were looking for pics and progress from anyone who chopped the front tusks for a high tuck. Seems people don't chop the tusks like when they remove inner fenders and leave the OE fender braces lol.

If anyone has any pics you can share on a tusk chop and how much you cut it would be highly appreciated.

Happy New Year!

I was on the verge of chopping mine after I deleted the Rubicon edisconnect sway assembly and the factory front bumper skid that protects it, but ran out of daylight. A few days later, I received my Warn winch and mounting plate and was thankful that I didn't chop the tusks because the winch plate ties into them for added structural strength.

I also didn't plan on chopping them flush with the frame, like I've seen some others do. Reason is because they serve as protection for the sway bar bushings/brackets from being sheered off the frame.

The take away is to first make sure that you won't regret chopping them. Dumb luck in losing daylight saved me from myself, because made the mistake of not thinking forward enough.

Cheers, buddy!

I thought about it for a second, but decided to go with the skid plate that goes with the LOD bumper, because I knew I was going with the DSCs and I wanted to mount the resi in that location………as Mike stated, think about all future plans to make sure they need to go……….

I went a little overboard, but it works just fine. Im using a normal sway bar with quick disconects, and a custom bumper.

I slugged the frame to add additional support for my winch tray.

Biggest thing to look out for is the front of the sway bar mount is tied into the "tusks" so be sure to have a plan for that. I cut some box tube up and welded that onto the frame to bridge the gap (you can see some of it in the pictures).

Appreciate this. I've scribed and marked off keeping ESB in mind. This weekend going to start. Nice bumper btw.

Whats funny is I meant to take a ton of pictures while doing all this work, and I was bumping up against a trip and ran out of time. Plus, I suck at taking pictures.

Basically what I did, is I used most of a JCR winch tray meant for a stock bumper, cut the "wings" off that tied into the tusks, and made my own that tied into the "slugs" I showed above. They went from being under the tray, to the top.
This is a piece of 3/16" plate with a weld washer, thats what the JCR plate is made out of so I figured it was strong enough. A "wing:"

And bumper pics. Its actually two parts. As mentioned, the JCR winch plate and the bumper shell. It was easier for me to fab, plus you can get things a little tighter IMO. Shell is 1/8" plate, doubled up in spots along with some angle iron. Tow hook mounts are from EVO.
