Hey guys. Just curious if anyone has some suggestions for spots to go for a week Nov 6th-12th. I'm from St Louis and as much as I want to go back to Sedona, AZ, I'm not sure I can convince my buddies to do the 22hr+ drive. We will probably do a mix of camping in the Jeep and using hotels.

So far, we've been kicking around the following:
Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas
The sand dune parks up north in Michigan
Head to Colorado and just see what happens lol

I really want to do Imogene when I make it to Colorado, but I know that isn't possible in November.

A couple hours closer than Sedona would be Moab, although getting there through the Colorado roads in early November might be fine or could be a bit iffy if an early snowstorm occurred, but hey, life's a gamble eh???

I think Windrock should be on your Radar in Tennessee. Of if you don't want to drive far, I would look at Disney Oklahoma and maybe make a loop out of it on the way to Hot Springs.

I haven't been through Tennessee in quite a few years. I think we passed through leaving Trail of the Dragon years ago

I have motorcycled the Dragon many times. Did you by chance do the Cherohala Skyway on your way back.? It is one of my more favorite motorcycle roads.

We decided on doing the Smoky Mountains for 5 days. If anyone has any trails/camp sites/tips that would be awesome.

I'm sleeping in the Jeep and won't have a trailer, so I shouldn't have any bottlenecks.

We did a couple of easy trails while there two weeks ago. The first one was the Heintooga Ridge / Balsam Mountain Roads just east of Cherokee, NC. Take Blue Ridge Parkway about 11 miles east to Heintooga Ridge Road. It is an 8-mile, two-way paved road until you get to Balsam Mountain Road. Balsam Mountain Road is a narrow one-way gravel/dirt road about 14 miles in length. Stay on this road until you get back to Cherokee. This loop trail takes you inside the National Park.

The second trail we did was Rich Mountain Road. It starts inside the GSMNP while on Cades Cove Loop Road. It’s a one-way gravel/dirt road leading north to Townsend and is shown on the park map. While in Townsend, be sure to stop by Cades Cove Jeep Outpost.

As long as you’re in the area, head over to the Tail of the Dragon near Deals Gap. Although it’s paved, it has 318 curves in 11 miles. Other scenic roads to drive are the Foothills Parkway and the Cherohala Skyway, as well as the Blue Ridge Parkway mentioned earlier.

So I took my JLU up to sleeping bear dunes in Michigan 3 months ago. Some things to note, the dunes themselves are for on foot hiking only, and it is a gruelling hike of about 2 hours each way. That said, the nearby towns of Traverse City and Charlevoix are spectacular, and a fun time. Bar and grills, the famed "Mushroom houses" in Charlevoix, just beautiful scenery all around. If you are looking for a more rustic setting for offroading, check out Drummond Island in Upper Michigan on the Canadian border. There are campsites there, as well as off roading opportunities.
