Has anyone had their trans replaced under warranty? How long did it take? Mine has been in for service, and diagnostics twice before finally replicating my problem. Aside from the headache of just getting it diagnosed, last I heard, 2 weeks ago, they have to do more diagnostics to get the approval from FCA to get the transmission replaced. There is no ETA. It's top off season and I miss my jeep dearly. Anyone else have experience with this?

I also have a case open with Jeep, which they have been hardly helpful in the resolution of this. At this point, it's been gone so long my payments for insurance, loan, and SiriusXM are just a waste of money.

Video of my transmission acting up (does it every morning) and they could not replicate the problem for a month.

Thanks for reading.

Video of my transmission acting up
I assume the issue is the RPM surge from 2500 to 3000 at around the 8 second mark? Does this surge occur at the same RPM all the time?

I know the vehicle is at the dealership, but I suggest having a throttle recalibration done and see what happens after:
  1. Turn the ignition to ON but not START
  2. Wait for all warning lights to go out, except for the Check Engine Light
  3. Slowly press the accelerator pedal to the floor
  4. Slowly release the accelerator pedal
  5. Turn the ignition to OFF
  6. Start the engine

Hey! Thanks for your response. I wish I could have tried your suggestion when I had my jeep in my hands.

The surge happens only* during the first driving cycle through the gears, and only* happens during 3rd and 4th gear. It's hardly noticeable when it's been previously driven or is warm. The dealership argued that it's "normal" and that I'm driving it under operational temperature. In the video you can see it failed to catch into 4th gear and had to try again.

During the first diagnostic, the dealership updated the transmission computer. It didn't do a darn thing but just add writing to paper.

Last I heard they're waiting for approval from Chrysler to replace the whole trans.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but FCA doesn't really do any work to these transmissions, at all. They have 4 steps to this problem.

1. Deny that it is happening.
2. Perform a software update.
3. Replace the valve body.
4. Replace the transmission.

I've noticed this is what happens from other posters on this forum. I'm wondering if the new transmission will even last me, as this one has only given me 42k miles..

ZF8 transmission failure is very rare. It sucks, but the odds of it happening twice are astronomically low.

Wanted to give you a ray of sunshine. I had this exact issue with my 2021 bought it used and the previous sob didn't get it fixed. I ended up getting a new trans under warranty and it has been great since. Good luck

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the ray of sunshine! I bought mine used as well, I only have 3 months left of the factory warranty! Good thing it happened now instead of later.

This approach is not limited to transmissions. The techs are really just parts replacers. They have a little diagnostic process they go through and then swap a part and you are on your way…and maybe it fixes it, maybe not. If not, just repeat the process…

and do it with a friendly smile. Anyway. That is what my dealership does. They are not very effective but they are friendly and the coffee is good.
