Trailer wiring harness issue

Hi,
I recently installed a curt trailer wiring harness (56407) on my 2021 sport s. I followed the instructions and afterwards hooked up a couple different trailers and the lights did not work on the trailers. I bought a small led tester and that works great. I hooked up my multimeter and it reads about 26.5 volts when it’s getting power. Looks like I should be getting 12 volts. Do I need to have my system flashed by the dealer or a tazer? Is this an issue my harness kit? I have standard halogen oem lighting.

Yes. I had it hooked up to the third terminal on the positive side (same as my winch cable). I now moved it to the first terminal and Tested it. I’m still getting 26volts at the 4 pin connection.

I went back and looked at my taillight install and remounted the ground wire with the provided self tapping screw. Still reading 26v. I did notice wiring box had fallen from its original spot but all the wires looked good.

The wiring box is actually a computer module/relay. Mine shorted out 2 years after install due to water getting into it in the wintertime if your module was loose and there was a chance water got within it may give you issues.

I installed the same Curt harness on my 2020...I never had an issue, you should contact them. Sounds like a factory defect.

Sorry to be a dummy, you are getting 12v at your in line fuse, but 26v at the flat four connector?? E torque or ESS12v , not that it should matter. This can only be the Curt module

Yes, I am getting 26v at the 4 pin. Didn’t check the in line. Here’s a picture, I have the headlights on, multimeter on the ground and on the first of the 3 on the 4 pin (running lights)

I talked to someone at curt and they said I should try connecting the ball on the trailer to ground the trailer, but I still don’t know why I’d get 26v on the wiring.

Looking at your Meter, the symbol for Voltage DC is two parallel lines, that would be over on the left quadrant of your meter. You have it set to Alternating, current, the Wavy line ? Shouldn't it be set to the 20v, on the dc scale ?

Well I’m an idiot. Ya my multi meter wasn’t set to the right setting. It’s reading 12 now. It must just be the trailer wasn’t on the hitch so the lights didn’t come on.

Don't feel bad, how do think I knew to look at the setting, and yes, trailer ground needed to complete thru hitch. Now to enjoy it
