I’m getting bigger rims and tires. Is it easy to transfer sensors from the factory wheels? Or just better off to buy new ones. Where should I look to purchase them. These are on a 18 jlu sport

@robertsj22

As mentioned already, if you plan on selling your stock rims/tires you are best to leave the TPMS's in and buy new ones...

You will pay to remove the TPMS's from your rims and you will find the rims/tires you pull off and want to sell, getting you less $ and even causing some buyers to look elsewhere cause TPMS's have been pulled..

www.tpmsbargains.com is an excellent place to buy new TPMS's from.

Many here buy from this vendor..

You will get fresh stock, no worry about counterfeits, etc.. They are quick to ship also and their customer service is terrific.

Do use “ 5%off ” and get the discount. You will need to buy 5 TPMS's.

By the way, no worry about buying new TPMS's. Your JL will automatically deal with them and they will work with your JL..

In regard to your JL's TPMS:

-
How does the JL know which tire/rim/wheel is where .....

Well, there are 3 sensors on the chassis that monitor the 4 TPMS Sensors found on the 4 tire (rim) positions.

Info from the 3 chassis sensors is transmitted to the Wireless Control Module. There is no need for a 4th chassis sensor as the computer uses the process of elimination to determine the fourth tire location.

Yes, your JL knows exactly which rim is where, usually within seconds of a tire rotation for example. Yes, It's all done automatically.

The JL, does have a TPMS sensor in the spare, but it is not read by a chassis sensor/ considered by the computer until it is placed in one of the 4 tire positions.

Does anyone know how to change the settings. My tires have 30psi in them and the low psi alert always comes up. Can I change it to allow for the 30psi setting?

You need a programmer like a Tazer, or a security gateway bypass cable with an OBD2 scanner/reader and the JSCAN app. There are a few other options that work with the JL, but these 2 are the most popular.

Why can’t tpms be set to a lower threshold prior to installing? Doesn’t the sensors just pass on information to the wireless control module ?the

There are no settings in the sensors themselves. It’s the vehicle’s WCM that’s programmed to read what the sensors send and alert when the pressures are lower than what the vehicle is programmed for.
