Tough buying decision

2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara
My daughter recently totaled her Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. It was a 2020 with the 2.0L turbo motor and ran great. She’s now looking for a new to her Wrangler and I am struggling with going with the 2.0, the V6, the 4xE or the diesel model. Let’s hear everyone’s opinion on what model they think. Keep in mind, this Jeep will more of a country roads pavement princess than an off-road rock crawler. Thanks in advance!

P.S. the attached photo shows her Jeep after it rolled. The cage and seatbelt did exactly as they were designed to do. Blessed that she walked away unscathed!

IMO opinion, the 3.6 is by far the most reliable, best option. The Diesel was a real challenge, because of the emissions. Plus the Dealers service technicians, really don't like working on them. As for the 4XE, they have been a real problem for some, spending more time in the repair shop then in the owner's garage. They have also had their share of fires. The factory has told some of the owners, not to put them in their garage, because they may burn the house down. The 2.0 sounds like a sewing machine, it has been a decent engine, but it would not be my first choice. The 3.6 has been sold to approx. 14 million users. Some (a very low percentage) have had some issues, but as for current, they are very reliable. We have four (4) 3.6's in the family, with no major issues. I highly recommend this engine! Good Luck! Whatever you purchase, I suggest that you take out the MOPAR extended warranty insurance policy.

4xe shouldn’t even be in the conversation. If you had good luck with the 2.0l, just stick with that.

Light duty diesels are just overcomplicated and expensive.

• Diesel - how will she drive it ? doesn’t do well with shorter runs, … do you live where you can eliminate it’s uhh, “issues” ?
* T-4 vs V6. - countless threads to read, but the same repetitive opinions. Long V6 test drive recommended.
• There can be only one most reliable and smile producing choice,
Don’t let her be disappointed. 😁

Retired HD diesel technician opinion here…. Avoid the EcoDiesel unless you have exact detail on the maintenance history. I’ve owned two and both were bought back (failed HPFP on both) so I’m a bit jaded. Some will say they’re bulletproof but your mileage may vary.

I currently own a 2025 Rubicon with the 4 banger and it’s been flawless.

I am glad your daughter is safe. That's the important part. I personally would shy away from the 4xe, but that's just my personal preference. I own a diesel wrangler (full disclosure) and highly recommend it due to much better fuel economy, which was important for me. However, consideration should be given for the V6, based on her driving style. Lastly, 2.0 4-cylinder.

Well, considering two of those have been discontinued I'd say avoid those.

I have a V6, get the 2.0 turbo, and don't look back. Just make sure, as you should with any used vehicle, that you get it fully inspected before you buy, then fully serviced, and I mean a 100k service, no matter how few miles it has on it. 20-30k miles is low, but they could have been hellish miles. You can't tell when it's been detailed and is sitting on a dealer lot.

Depending on the year, an e-Torque 3.6L could be an engine option you might run into as a choice. Someone who knows more than I do about the differences, pros/cons between the 3.6L and the 3.6L e-Torque, please chime in! @Heimkehr @alphawolff

To the OP: if she didn't already have a Sky-One Touch (SOT) top, now is the time to get one! I've been driving Jeeps for 35+ years, and the SOT has been a game changer!
