The other day I heard what I thought was someone driving on a flat turn out to be a Jeep with off road tires.
I heard him coming from a block away over my music.
Is this something you expect with off road tires or a realization after you purchased them?

Yep, some of the off road, and mud tires, are very noisy. This is why All-terrain tires are so high in demand.

Mud Terrain tires were on my K1500 when I purchased it. Yes, noisy! Being a frugal fellow, I wore them down to the wear bars before replacing them with Michelin LTXs, which were silent in comparison.

Yes, Mud Terrains are loud, and continue to get louder with wear.

I’ve had Firestone Destination MT’s on my JK and now the newer Mt/2 on the JL. They do “sing” a bit and I know they will get worse with age, but I have heard some that are Terrible on the road. When I hear them in my Jeep over the noises my Jeep makes, I know their tires are an issue.

I’ll probably change over to a less noisy A/T tire like the Falken Wildpeak A/T in the future, but I’ll have a bit more time with what I have now.

Typically, the more aggressive the tread for off road or mud, the louder they will get. The quiet tires will be highway tires. There are a few hybrid tires that can be used for off-road, and are quieter on the road….

Yeah. Just changed the mud tires on my daughter’s JK Willys. Before the change it was like permanently driving on cobblestone streets. Cleared up considerably with the new ones, but even so you can feel/hear it. But, she wanted the ones it came with.

You expect the noise with mud tires. Some people like the aggressive look and noise. Others get aggressive All Terrain tires which are much quieter. Still others get highway tires which are quieter still.

yes, mud tires are dumb. So are light bars and roof racks.
