I bought a new 2023 JLURD about a year ago and have put 11,000 miles on the vehicle. Absolutely love this rig with the diesel powerplant in it. At startup, I’m getting a ticking for about 5 seconds and then it goes away. I’m thinking valves or anti siphon on the oil filter is not doing its job. Anyone notice this and found out the culprit?

I have the same ticking and I just figured it was valve train. Once oil pressure is up it resolves. I don't move till it stops.

Is the sound coming from the engine or under the cab. The SCR/DEF injector makes a ticking when doing it's job. You may be hearing it being primed.

Interesting diagnosis….didn’t know that. I’m thinking this may not be the case because it doesn’t have the ticking noise when the engine is warm, only cold startup. Does the DEF prime on all startups or only when motor is cold? Thx for the info.

It will prime every time to get air out of the lines. You may hear it more when it is cold since it takes more time time due to being more air in the lines versus hot. So you may not even notice the few short ticks when it is hot, but do when it takes several seconds.

Mine does the same. It goes away and the motor runs so I chalked it up to normal funky diesel noises.

Mine did that before the delete. Now it doesn't. I'd assume it's something with that system, although I can't tell ya exactly where it was coming from.

It is the delayed oil control valve designed to ensure the engine has limited emissions over its lifetime.
