Hey everyone,
Curious to know if anyone has heard this or has any ideas as to what it might be.
Every now and then, when I start the vehicle, I hear a high-pitched squeal/whine. It happens when I use the remote start, it happens when I start normally. It happens on a cold start, it happens when I drive the car for 10min, power off, and power back on in a few min (think, going into a shop to pick something up and then coming back).
What drives me crazy is that it doesn't happen all the time so I can't consistently reproduce it. To me it sounds like a slipping belt, or a bearing on one of the pulleys going bad.
I had to take it to the dealer to have the backup camera repaired (which I thought was just a software update but apparently, they have to replace the unit) so I asked them about it, and they have no idea what it could be. It's especially difficult for them because they haven't been able to reproduce it while it's at the shop.
I tried to attach the file but it's too big, so I uploaded it to the internets. In the video I use the remote start at first, then I go into the jeep and push the start button. you can hear it squeal, then stop, then squeal again.
I showed the dealer the video and they agreed it's not normal, but still can't tell me what it could be.

Any thoughts?

I'm hearing they same on a new 2023. Remote start when cold about a second before the engine cranks.

Startup squeal, my best guess as an engineer and certified mech: Cold belt, tension on belt is not perfect in stationary position. You start and either crank shaft or generator pulley has to much drag for tension on belt and it gives a split second chirp. Mine is really just s chirp, not a 1970's caddy power steering belt at full steering wheel lock squeal.

I'm not worried about it. Every time I hear it I think "since 1941".

Turns out it's the compressor.
Had a long trip over Christmas. 4 hours in I stopped at a gas station, and it was making a consistent noise. I was able to trace it easily. Brought it into the shop, dealer confirmed it's the pulley. Parts are being ordered now.

and just for funsies....
The nut on the tensioner snapped off when they were working on it, so they had to replace that as well.
Took like a month to get everything worked out.
Now there's a super annoying noise coming from the driver side area by the pedals. I wonder what it could be....
