What the hell are those tangs on the plastic nozzle for anyways? They look exactly like something designed to go though a hole and not come back out. Just like what happened.
Maybe to prevent it from being pushed in too far? Not sure, just a guess. Probably needs to be redesigned of that’s what they are meant to be.

They are there to hold the transfer tub end in the hole. They act like a spring pushing outwards. It's actually very handy and it's well designed for what it is. Looks like OP got a little excited and pushed it past the flat spots on the tangs. It's skinny with two tangs like that to allow air to escape as you pump fluid in. I've been using something like this for many, many years. There really is no issue here. OP just made a mistake and now he gets to go fishing for FOD. I wouldn't hesitate to use this style of transfer pump. Like I said, it's super handy and works well.
