When i got my YJ i thought of the Sahara as the Barbie Dream Safari Jeep. But as i got older i grew to appreciate it more. They were also selling the Rio Grande edition at the time.

Sahara YJ was my first Jeep experience. I was in high school. The Sahara belonged to my friend’s dad, I believe it was a brand new 1990. I remember marveling as my buddy eased the clutch out in 1st gear and we ever so slowly crawled up a little dirt hill. Think that’s where my addiction started.

This is almost identical with the Sahara I bought back in ‘88

The Renegade was the first Jeep with a hood decal. YJ Laredos also had hood decals. In YJs, the Laredo was the fanciest one. The Sahara was more of a safari oriented trim just below the Laredo.

Young ones may not know where the Wrangler Sahara comes from.

Browsing through Instagram it reminded me how Sahara got started as the “dressy” trim level on the original Wrangler, the YJ...back in the 1980s.

The original Sahara consisted of a dress-up package available in limited colors with a unique interior, camel top, painted fenders and special fender stickers. There was a particularly striking color combination that added a unique camel-and-green interior.

Over the years, Sahara has remained the “classier” Wrangler. In 2003, Jeep added the Rubicon as the top trail version with a rear locker, and making the hood decal a characteristic of that model ever since.

The fender stickers and painted fender flares have remained a trademark of Saharas ever since.

Wow. Thanks for the memories, OP. Loved my ‘00 TJ Sahara.
I absolutely loved the white exterior w/tan HT & green seats. Jeep should bring the tan HT & green & tan interior back again. Should be called Sahara Classic?

Wow! I looked up the JK ones and those are about $30 each - part 68285717AA
It looks like the other ones are 5FE52WGK ($30/each as well) and I can't find the older ones.

It is amusing to think a sticker costs $30 though.

At some point I might entertain the idea of getting the blue and grey rubicon stickers and then painting my jeep's red stuff blue. So that it's blue/blue instead of blue/red. I probably won't though, there's so many red accents inside lol.

i remember the yj saharas in both the green and black with the tan top. i've always like the black combo because a couple of folks i knew had them both in yj and tj. the funny thing about the renegade was that i wasnt crazy about fendered mounted fog lights, but later on i like the design. i love the wheels tho.
