You may have already looked but just in case I believe...
Northwest OHV is normally open Sat, Sun
Hidden Falls is normally open Fri, Sat, Sun
Big Bend Nat'l park is open all the time

I'd like to get down to Big Bend to pick up Black Gap road but there is also a trail that is supposed to be pretty cool in the park going up Christmas Mountains.
Terlingua Ranch Lodge is the Gateway to the Christmas Mountains Range
I did Black Gap and Christmas Mountain in June. Both are absolutely fantastic, but not close to each other at all.

The state park is also worth checking out. We did the Fresno Canyon Trail and it was incredible. It takes you down into an old river bed. Driving along with the canyon walls towering above you is an experience!

Black Gap is kinda in the middle of the National Park. If you have time, I suggest running it both directions. Half of it is mostly boring and the other have is worth the trek out there.

Another great trail to check out in the park is Old Ore. It's just shy of 27 miles long and, while not truly technical, is one of the only trails in the park that has zero maintenance performed on it. So, there's plenty to traverse and keep you engaged.

If you take the time to do Christmas Mountain (and you should), make sure to get a morning reservation. The morning light makes for the most amazing views (even looking into the National Park from the top).

When you leave Terlingua Ranch, don't go back on the 14-mile long crappy service road. Bang a left onto Ament Lake Road/Trail. It's a fun short-ish trail with some great views that'll take you back out to Highway 118.

Ah thanks for the info I did not know that. As of now I have myself at Hidden Falls on a Friday and Northwest OHV on a Sunday.

I wish I had even more time but with all the driving to get out there the trip right now is at 13 days. I'll be spending 1 day doing Black Gap and the next day will be dedicated to hiking in Big Bend. Then heading up towards Austin the following day.

A couple of the Jeep Talk Show guys are members at Hidden Falls and run there pretty often. Would be a good group to go with since they know it so well.
Who are these Jeep Talk Show guys and how to I get in touch with them?

JTS is a Jeep podcast with an active listener group. Bill (392 and a JLR) and John (JKUR) are in the Austin area by hidden falls. You can either join the discord, or drop in a zoom call on Tuesday or Thursday, Tuesday is broadcast and streamed on YT. I'm on both as well.

If you're hiking, I recommend the Santa Elena Canyon Trail. It's only 1.8 miles, but you go back in this crazy canyon split by the river. On your left is Mexico. On your right is the U.S.

I got some nice scrape marks from crossbar, and my Jeep broke down there too, unrelated to off-roading of course. Paradigm just destroyed his fender there. But the place is hella fun!!

I've been to Northwest OHV and Crossbar at this point, Northwest OHV is child's play by comparison, but it does make for a fun place to do some relatively easy off-roading.

I'll have my engine skid installed by that point. So I'll really be able to go ham!! :handsinair:
Don't say you are ready to hammer Cross Bar or I will take you on some stuff that you will never get off of. I am running 40" MTs now and it's a whole different ballgame from the 37s.

I definitely have limitations. I don't really care if I destroy my skid plates. I just don't want to destroy anything else in the process. I'd prefer to go the next 10 years and not snap an axelrod or anything.

Yeah I'll be running 35s for quite some time. At minimum for the next 5 years. At which point I'll probably just jump up to 40s, cuz there's really no point in going up to 37s. Just go to the big boys and get it over with! But by then I'll be a much more skillful off-roader, so the 40s will just make everything easier. :like:

Had the money for one tons, and skimped on fender flares huh? tsk tsk
Or are you running 40s on D44s?

This is Cross Bar, my, home trail at the Great American Crawl event we did a couple of weeks ago. The white truck and the white Jeep at 7 minutes are two of my riding buddies.

They both tried Hells Gate too but didn't make it but neither did the pros.

There are a couple of flashes of me.

It definitely shows you the main trails that I do.

Me neither! How are the 40s doing? Mine is my DD, 2 dr Rubi but running 2024 392 axles. I was tempted, but stuck with 37s.
It only has 24 offroad miles on it since installing but they were technical miles. We will see what happens over the next 9 days of wheeling.

In case you break somethin', stay close to @Tredsdert ... he'll be lookin' to winch someone out of a jam. 😁
We should really give this thread back to @SadRobot .

My wheeling buddy has 18,000 miles on his 392 with 40s and stock TC, steering and axles and he is a lot rougher than me. You just never know.
