I just picked up a Teraflex hinged spare tire carrier and was wondering if there was any other spare tire mount that would work with it. I am not a fan of the third brake light solution they have and would like to use something else. I am running 35" tires. Thanks in advance!

I have a combination that consists of the mopar tailgate support bracket and teraflex alpha hd tire carrier and all is perfect. I wouldn’t hesitate to put a 37’’ tire on there.

Not a fan either, but it’s a lot better than the stock one sticking up blocking the window. I had removed it and only using a QT PNP light ring before getting it. Presently running both, but looking for a way to plug the wire hole on the camera stalk to keep debris out. I ordered a 5’th center cap to drill out to fit over the stalk. If it or an alternative covers most of the stalk hole , back to just the ring.
I am getting used to it. Not bothered as much by it anymore and could live with it if no suitable stalk hole cover/plug found.

I've thought about the light ring, I'll have to check if it's legal in my state.

Uhh- not DOT approved, but plenty of bright light, 2 years no problem after seeing others with just a ring. If I get a ticket, (use the QT splitter for both), just plug it in and get the ticket signed off and pay the fine. PS, front license also required, my 15 GC has never had one. 🤷🏼‍♂️
hope I didn’t just jinx myself 🙄
Also- with new 8.5” -1mm wheels it doesn’t stick out and honestly doesn’t bother me much.

My state (PA) has yearly inspections. I guess I'll just go w/the Teraflex mount..

It will take but moments to plug it in for the inspection when wired for both with the supplied QT splitter 🤔 I wouldn’t want it when sticking out with the stock 44mm wheels.

I have the Tereflex reinforcement and tire carrier. other than being expensive it is great unit and install was pretty easy. This is a heavy unit though and weighs over 50 lbs. They describe it as aluminum but only part of the tire carrier is aluminum, entire reinforcement is steel. What I really like is the depth adjustment on the tire carrier, you can snug tire up tight against carrier and no need for bumpers.

I have an Oracle light ring installed on my Teraflex. It took some modifications to mount it but it was pretty simple. I also have a Rugged Ridge ring that was on my wife's Jeep that I have listed for sale here if you're interested. You could tap it into the existing wiring and also leave the plug for the stock light to be installed just during inspections if you feel the need.

You may want to reach out to Teraflex to see if they have any ideas or other solutions. Their customer service is fantastic and you never know they might be getting enough requests about a different 3rd light option that an engineer works with you to test an idea.

I'm not aware of another manufacturer making a compatible carrier with Teraflex's hinge/tailgate support. Looks like that Oracle light ring will be your best bet if Teraflex doesn't have other ideas. @dlong1119 nice install, that looks really clean!

Thanks! Most of the light rings would just drop in place but the Oracle is supposed to use 3 metal brackets that get screwed into the OEM carrier. I like how open it is since my wheel is also fairly open, so I made it work by shortening two of the brackets and moving them into different positions (there are multiple threaded holes in the ring), then using an M6x1.0x20mm screw into a threaded hole in the carrier and drilling a hole in the top for a bolt/washer/nut to hold it. Looks even better that way I think!

Definitely a creative solution on your end. I'm assuming the bolt heads don't interfere with the wheel center sitting flush against the carrier? I have stock Rubicon wheels and if I did this workaround that would be my only concern. Also it seems like most of those ring lights have a section stop working but people keep driving with them, how's the oracle quality held up so far?

The lower mounting point is slightly recessed from the wheel mounting surface. The upper point I drilled pretty close to the edge of it and the wheel has recessed pockets and that clears that bolt head. You could probably use a tapered bolt and countersink it if you wanted as that plate is pretty thick, but I don't it would be necessary with most wheels.

I've had zero issues with either the Oracle or the Rugged Ridge rings, both in use for about 3 years.

What part of the brake light is the issue with the terraflex reinforcement ? I think the clamp is pretty slick for access to the spare for changes and rotations.
