So I know people say to unmarry their tazer before a dealer visit. So if I change the tire size and unmarry the tazer and settings default can’t the dealership give me guff for having 35s and the computer set for 33s. Should I just have the dealership update the tire size? Will they try to say that my mileage is higher than it is because 35s instead of 33.v

Depends on the dealerships. Can't answer what ifs.

I've always set tire size and removed it. Left it programmed for any visits.

Unless you're having a problem that could potentially be due to larger tires or a DTC code that points them to that type of problem most dealers probably aren't even going to check your tire size setting.

Unless you have a lot of custom settings that you need to change, unmarrying and marrying again when you get it back really isn't a difficult procedure and doesn't take very long. The risk of applying a system update to a system with non-standard settings is very small but probably not zero. If a problem were to occur the dealer would probably try to absolve themselves of any liability. My philosophy is to just remove all risk and unmarry.

You absolutely have to remove the Tazer in order for the dealer to scan the computer anyway. From my experience removing and reinstalling the Tazer is significantly more difficult than unmarrying, remarrying, and reentering custom settings, especially if you don't have a lot of custom settings.

Find a dealer that doesn't make you unmarry anything --or anyone

Dealerships definitely vary. I’ve been developing a relationship with the shop manager and this has been very beneficial.

Example… when I first took my new JLR in because of a check engine light and a steering wheel that wasn’t 12 o’clock driving straight, they fixed the idiot light but wouldn’t touch the steering because I had an aftermarket steering stabilizer (ExactCenter). They told me I had to remove the stabilizer. Second time in with another electrical issue, I asked to talk to the service manager about mods I added, Tazers, etc. and he was all in with the discussion.

When I picked up my JLR, they fixed the electrical, aligned my steering, and all with aftermarket Tazer and steering stabilizer in place. Maybe I’m lucky that the service manager is Jeep guy!

A tidbit to keep in mind.... a major reason why you want to unmarry the Tazer JL before a dealership Service Dept. visit.

The Tazer JL doesn't write to the PCM, it writes to the BCM.

When the dealer does a flash update that had a BCM config change to go along with it, well it could/may , when you finally/eventually unmarry, after the dealer did their work...... have the process writing the old value back which undo's what the dealer programmed. Not great....

A way around this is to have JSCAN in your arsenal. With JSCAN there is no marry and unmarry. So, in this case, if you had done tire size with JSCAN.... You'd just go to the dealer for work and no unmarry so tire size would be correct.

A hybrid approach, I suggest often ....... is to have a Tazer JL and enjoy all it's terrific features.... but you use JSCAN to program gearing and tire size rather then doing that with the Tazer JL.

or AlfaOBD - I use it on the jeep and other vehicles. Does all of the same things JSCAN can do and more.

So I went from stock Sahara (32”) to 35”. I had my dealer mount and balance my tires. They also notified Chrysler to get an authorization code to update my warranty and reprogram the speedometer and anything else that might have been necessary. They recommended doing this so that in the future Chrysler could never say I made changes and that was the cause of problems, ie tranny, diff or anything else. They did so, documented and gave me a receipt to keep in glove box. It was $140 but on a two month old Jeep that was $65k I think a worthwhile insurance policy.

Jeep Wrangler JL Tazer for tire size update 1667653014189

If my service manager saw your Jeep pull into his bay, he’d scream little a little girl! ?

I showed up with my Tazer unmarried and SWG connected and the service guy asked me to activate the Tazer with correct tire calibration. (37s)
Reason for the visit was bad FAD operation.
As long as the Tech does not do a flash update that had a BCM config change to go along with it then no concern.

Consider getting JSCAN so next time at dealership, you do not need Tazer JL in the mix. Tazer JL and it's features is terrific and you can use it in conjunction with JSCAN.
