Tailgate Key Lock Missing

Mine was built 3/20....anyone else have one built this late with the lock?

I wonder if Jeep is phasing out the tailgate lock, but they have a bunch with the locks still and they are just going though the inventory.

Could it be tied to a color? Perhaps it will take more time to get through the hella yella doors with lock than the firecracker red or sting grey.

It's also entirely possible I've been cooped up in the house too long and my trip to Telluride can't get here fast enough!

I have a Sting Gray JLUR Recon with proximity sensors and it was build 2/17 and has the lock on the tailgate.

I just watched a video of the production line, and it looks like the tailgates are already on the Jeep when they are painted. As a side note, if you haven’t seen a video of the assembly line, you really should! Very interesting stuff.

Indeed. I have watched it several time getting ready for my order. There are a few but all seemed to be footage from the official one.

Canada's tailgate locks were phased out last year I think America's getting it done this year.
As a data point. I have A 19 remote start. And the tailgate lock.

The 2020 diesel Rubicon I ordered in March and delivered in July with every available option did not have the lock. We will see when my 2021 diesel Rubi arrives...

Talked with my parts guy and he said they haven't been told why some don't have them but there are two tailgate part numbers, one with hole other without.

As I posted earlier my 2020 VW doesn't have any and I guess on some models that has been the case for years.

My VW sans keylocks and my JL sans keylocks, kind of.

Cargurus allows you to sort by newest listing, and see how long the vehicle has been listed. Looks like it might have been discontinued about 3 months ago, with various vehicles showing up at different times due to QA and shipping issues. We all know that your Wrangler might be built, but someone else who hasn't even ordered gets theirs first.

I wonder if they'll keep the lock on the base Sport with manual locks?

Sounds like they’ve deleted the tailgate lock, probably to save money as @jeepster345 suggested.

That seems so odd. Maybe some bean counter in accounting got a huge bonus for saving $1.69 on every FCA vehicle made.

I don't have that much faith in electronics to not even have a key lock for the drivers door. My wife's minivans proximity system drives me crazy and based on that experience I didn't opt for it in my Jeep during the ordering process.

The VW has a key lock on drivers door if you pry off the handle cap.

Why does the proximity drive you crazy?

Due to hard economic times I had to let the chauffeur go and the Bentley was repossessed. Still have the G so times aren't too bad. Taking driving lessons since I forgot how to drive.

Well thank goodness you didn't lose the G-Wagen, I mean what would the neighbors think.
