Doesn’t a convertible top already solve this? I don’t have one so sincere question,

If true this is sad
“If you told Jeep Wrangler customers they could only choose a removable top or 4x4 drive, we're willing to bet that more of them would opt for the roof.”

When removed, yeah, it seems to resemble the SOT quite a bit. Definitely not the full convertible experience.

The TJ and JK 2 dr I used to take off, and reinstall the hard top by my self, the JK was a lot easier because of the freedom panels. I'm guessing the JL 2 dr would be just as easy.

My problem wasn't removing, and installing, it was the storage since I live in a condo.

When I lived in a house, it was a non issue storing the hard top.

Ideally with a 2 door I would not even bother with a hard top, however in Canada, you couldn't get a Sahara with a soft top, it was either a hard top or dual, and worse no half door with a Sahara TJ or JK.

I'm theory it'll be much easier to take off / on. If it makes it to the Wrangler, that is.

Thanks for the info John.

Now, I say somewhat cynically, we can wait while Stellantis catches up with the already existing solutions of its owner community like that of Jeff Scherb (@jscherb)

(Stellantis, if you haven't, please do reach out to Jeff on this one. )

I don't get that from this story. I read it more like the removable panels will be a lighter design, but not necessarily in the shape of the line drawing.

I like my hardtop but would like to remove it easily for special occasions. For example, doing a particularly difficult trail or a "topless" beach event. I like the idea of being able to remove it by myself due to lighter weight and not so awkward to handle like the current 4-door top. Even better if I don't need specialized equipment to remove it or store it because the removed pieces take less space in the garage.

I'm thinking the line drawing is a fundamental part of the patent.

The line drawing is not specific to the Wrangler or any other Jeep model. It seems to be focused on a multi panel concept for any Jeep SUV. The Wrangler would be a likely candidate. Although no drawing is shown, the three layer honeycomb design would be an improvement. I had a Trifecta tonneau cover of this construction and it was great. Light enough for one person to take on an off with ease, yet you could stand on it. One downfall is water intrusion. Any leaks, even little ones are a killer. Fill those honeycomb panels up with water and nobody is happy.

Good to see that the Ford Bronco is pushing Jeep to do better instead of continuing to do what they've done for 50 years.

Now if we can just get those stupid door harness connections hidden behind kick panels to get improved locations...........

That line gave me a chuckle and then I got real sad cause its probably true.

I mean if you could put a Jeep body on a Prius there would be a market for the majority of people who just want to look like they do Jeep things.

The only plus side to those people is they keep the companies in business so we have things to buy as well.
