Who’s to say the Agnelli family won’t give in to the same kind of flawed reasoning disguised as “strategic thinking” that led to the selection of the CEO preferred by the French?
Yep…great article in the WSJ if more detail is desired. The great grandson of the senior Agnelli is trying to calm the waters within Stellantis by encouraging the organization to do what Stellantis does best…”sell cars”. So inspiring…geez. Didnt see a mention of any meaningful changes forthcoming. Cost cutting and lack of R&D provided nice dividends for he and his family…but I suspect leaner times await.

Even without Tavares, Stellantis is in a dead end. Many models and brands that are simply not saleable anymore. Either unreliable or too expensive (or both...) Right now the Western auto industry is not in the best shape.

In Europe your future is our present. Exit Grand Cherokee, Cherokee and Gladiator and maybe soon Wrangler? because of ecological taxes.

This is what Jeep sells in Europe it is electric (exist in thermic) and based on Peugeot platform.

Jeep Wrangler JL Stellantis CEO Tavares has resigned jeep-avenger-hybrid-front-view

France and Italy will continue to insist on having their own national brands and will continue to subsidize them.

Why would the current European brands that own Stellantis disappear? I remember that the same car in the USA was distributed under 2 or 3 different brands, many of which have disappeared because they were just copy and paste. Exactly like in Europe, many brands have disappeared.

You Americans people, It must be strange to you that Jeep can put its acronym on what I present above (Avenger). It has nothing to do with Jeep, but we must not forget that the Cherokee XJ was designed with Renault. The Wrangler JK, the GC WK and Chrysler 300C designed with Mercedes, the Wrangler JL, the GC WK2 and the last GC 4XE with Fiat. Jeep has always been directly influenced by its successive owners.

At the end of the day it just doesn't really matter.

You European peoples, It must be strange to you that we aren't bothered by some things as much as many of you seem to believe we are.

On the contrary. I've an Italian-designed (and constructed) engine and a German transmission in my Wrangler, and it is easily the best and most fun powertrain that I've owned and used to date.

I'm concerned less about provenance than I am about practical, long-term functioning. On that point, I give fair credit to my spaghetti and sauerkraut-powered Jeep because it has earned such praise.

Here. Have a light beer.

My point was simply to respond to posts that say Jeep should be made in the USA, including the boss...
That the engine, gearbox or carpets come from elsewhere is nothing new. The important thing is that it is quality.

Yeah, James is a little confused, the newer 2.0's come from the US factory that opened in Indiana, along with the transmission. Some of the older 2.0's were imported from Italy. The 850RE isn't really German, it's a ZF-licensed design that's made here in the US by Stellantis. But, details... Maybe they are thinking of the 8HP75 which is a ZF transmission, although, I'm not sure where it's currently made. But it remains to be said, formerly Chrysler/Jeep can't seem to make much of anything its own these days that's good, the 3.6 being evidence. 14 years later, and it still sucks. The little bits borrowed from Italy and Germany are halfway decent.

Even with fines they still make profits on those units. Dropping your model so you make zero profit instead of less profit makes zero sense.

I'd argue the ZF 8-speed is the best performing mainstream transmission on the market. Our failures with these units are almost all due to our own factories' build quality. The leaking 4XE units are just the most recent example of that.

We should think of Toledo North (the plant where all our JL's come from) as an *assembly* plant. Hardy any of the parts, if any, are actually *made* there. Jeeps are designed and spec'd out by Stellantis Engineers, then most of the subassemblies and parts are all farmed out to a large supplier base. Those suppliers then send their parts into the plant and the JL is then assembled and shipped.

It might sound like a nit-picky distinction, but that type of "global manufacturing" is commonplace across the industry and leads to engines, transmissions, axles, etc. being sourced from all sorts of companies / suppliers.
