Has anyone replaced the steering wheel airbag? I have to replace mine on a wrecked 21 rubicon, along with the driver seat belts which are locked up. Trying to find out if the airbag control module needs replacing as well. Not finding any info. Was looking to see if anyone on here has replaced theirs?
thanks!

You should not have to replace the module. I've done a few air bags in JL wranglers and the air bag light was able to be reset after the bag & belt were replaced. One thing you probably will need to replace is the clock spring/switch assembly The connectors will probably be melted to the back of the airbag. You can get replacement connectors on Amazon , for a few bucks, But personally I wouldn't trust them. On a side note Nice Jeep , I looked at buying it on the X2 site, ended up buying a different wrecked 4xE from another site.

Check out “myairbags.com”…they specialize in these repairs, rebuild locked belts, etc. You should also re- think having the module “re-set”, as although the light in the dash might disappear, the “event” is still stored in the computers history.

Got my seatbelt back from myairbags.com. They were really quick and easy to deal with. I do have a question, I haven’t gotten the steering wheel airbag, is it ok to go ahead and install the searbelt?
I can disconnect the battery, just don’t want to set off the seatbelt and lock it up.

Replaced seat belts. No issues. Replaced the steering wheel air bag and the light is still on, service air bag, gonna have to plug in a code reader to probably clear out code.

every single airbag deployment will required the ORC module to be replaced per chrysler, no idea how you're resetting the module. the deployment code is permanent and cannot be cleared with wi-tech even

Jeep also says you have to replace the steering column upon deployment. They say that to cover themselves Most of the time the module can be reset. And YES wi tech will clear it , unless the module is blown And I've also cleared with autel and snap on scan tools if the module is blown then it will have to be sent out or replaced. The place who rebuilt the seatbelts can probably repair it.

now is any of this the way jeep wants it done Of course not, but he is rebuilding a salvage title vehicle for himself, not a body shop repair for an insurance company or customer

Incorrect. SRS codes are stored but can be reset with jscan. Once you replace the airbag or seatbelt and clear the code, no additional modules need to be reset. Jeeps don’t “store” accident data.

Hey Gang,

The Mrs. wrecked her JLU and was the only occupant, only the steering wheel bag deployed. My question is assuming the Driver belt initiated also will I be looking at just that belt (How do I tell)? Second Q -Am I reading correctly that the module (I'm assuming under the console) can be reset without replacement (most of the time)? The body shop/Insurance wrote it up Totalled but we're not letting her go, going to buy back and rebuild, as only the frame horns (bumper mounts) were tweaked...

just bought a center hit from co-part. welded in new factory slip-on horns, checked for square, replaced driver airbag and re charged driver seatbelt. Also, had module re-set(probably not necessary). Soldered in new airbag connectors. No lights and no alignment. 2020 Black and Tan sport. Total cost - $ 2700.00. Jeep and ins co. say to replace all seatbelts and bags and sensors after driver airbag deployment. That is a major factor in the total loss. Sounds like yours is kinda like mine. More talk than you needed but, yeah - I would re-build it....

Interesting Slip-on frame horns (I may have Qs about those - if frame straightener goes awry), how does one go about recharging seatbelts, is that a remove and send somewhere or?

Another Q, Did you have to replace the front bumper airbag sensor?

My biggest concern at the moment is why it won't roll freely. I'm guessing pressure from front driveshaft in transfer case. It had to be dolly towed because even in neutral/neutral it wouldn't rolI freely.

sent seatbelt off(on-line company) 59.00.
The sensor is not located on bumper. as long as sensor was(is) not on damaged area, I would not worry about it. However, sensor is 30 bucks.
I consider myself to be an amatuer longtime car guy but, not pro. So, I am not suggesting you do anything I did. frank

Well, this is all new territory for me so pulling from other's (experiences) who've been here before helps me game plan it...

I don't see any upside to DIY working on an airbag system. Lots of possibilities for bad things for everyone involved, including subsequent owners and your personal financial health.

But, here's what I can dig up in my manual.
