Hello everyone,

I have a 2018 2.0T JLU that I purchased outside of the warranty window. As I learned more about the Jeep, I discovered the TSB for the steering box. Being outside of warranty the dealerships are only giving me quotes for about $1500 to have the aluminum box replaced with the steel. That seems pretty high to me so I've been looking online for a steel box to do it myself.

I found a steel box, part #P68507574AB, on marketplace that was removed from a 392 to install a PSC system. Any idea of if this P# will work on my 2.0T? I've done a few google searches and am struggling to find anything conclusive.

Thanks!

The correct box is 68551684AE. I can't help with the 7574AB box. That box may have some kind of interface difference to accomodate the 392 or it may simply be a larger bore piston to assist with the heavier weight on the frontend.

Doesn't the swap to the steel gear box require a PCM update? I thought I read that in the TSB but maybe not. Something to look into...

Why do you want to replace the unit? If your not having any issues, there is no need to replace it. I had the aluminum on my 2018 and it was fine. They had to do a PCM update to adjust the pressure but other than that it was fine.

Thanks for the insight all. Appreciate the help!

I've been looking at replacing the aluminum box as I've been getting the wandering/pulling when driving straight. I believe the TSB addresses that. I know there are a lot of variables on these solid axle vehicles but thought this could be a good start.

What's your toe? What tire/pressure are you running? Stock suspension?

For toe:
Left .08
Right .07

Tire pressure is 33 and I have the AEV Dual Sport lift. I also have an adjustable track bar up front with a HD tie rod/drag link.

Yes, the steering box is worth the upgrade effort and cost. I had an aluminum box in my 2018 and all the aftermarket trackbars, draglink, and tierod, etc.. I also had adjusted the aluminum box down as tight as it would go without damaging it. It still had some looseness in the box. After replacing it with the steel box, it was noticeably better. Very much so. Like a "car". A real car. Definitely do this "repair'. It's not an "upgrade" to fix a problem.

Given that the 7574 box is likely a higher power assist, I may look into installing one on my 3.6L JLUR, even though I just installed an Apex pressure boost kit.

The 7574AB has been superseded by 68551688AE - Mopar Parts Giant
When there is a superseding part number it's likely to fix an issue. Go for the latest p/n.

Thats exactly what I'm looking for! I wasn't sure if the juice for this repair was worth the squeeze but it sounds like it is. Thanks for the help on this!

Other's might chime in.. but does getting a TSB require for you to be within warranty ? Seems like a seperate issue. ?
I would verify.
@JeepCares
A TSB is really more of a service manual update to the procedure or to identify what to do with a symptom. You need to be under warranty for it to be free.

Recalls always and Customer Satisfaction Notifications sometime include extra warranty period.

Thanks for that. I was getting the TSB confused with an actual recall(if that's the tech term)

Such as with the diesel, the HPFP replacement... would you have to still be in warranty for the replacement ?

I believe the Fuel Pump was a Recall, so should be free, and would be reimbursed if you had it done already.
