Went in for my 3yr/30k mi service which was supposed to be just an oil change and tire rotation. Wouldn't have gone to the dealer for this but wanted one thing checked under warranty that they did indeed fix under warranty.

Dealer came back with all of this from their "multipoint inspection". Seems a bit high and a bit much, no? Denied it all for the time being, but also just realized they wanted to charge me individual diff services on both front and back for $225 a piece plus the transfer case? Is the diff service not all one service? All of this seems crazy high to me.

Their labor is like $150 per hour. That's why these prices are so insane. You don't need a wheel alignment. Brake fluid is debatable. All these fluids can be done in your driveway for less than $200.

There is nothing hard to do yourself on this list. The exception is the alignment, which requires a floor jack and some measuring with a tape measure.

This forum can walk you through each of those tasks with a few pictures, if you can't find a youtube video. Doing these tasks yourself would save you at least $800, probably more, off that quote, not counting the alignment.

An alignment is a very simple mechanical task on a jeep, as there is only one adjustment to the wheel geometry, the toe-in. But this job shouldn't cost $169 at a real alignment shop. More like $50-70.

Well you r at the dealership. The alignment is way out. And maybe the diff service. Not sure on that. Even non dealer places r expensive today

I have lifetime Firestone alignment on our vehicles. Pay $170 and it's good for the amount of time you own it.

Did you ask to have any of this done? Did you sign a blank work order form? If no/no then I'd ask to see your signature on a work order.

This is precisely why I return to a dealer ONLY for recalls.

No, and I only went to the dealer in the first place to have them look at something under warranty which they did fix. While I was there and taking time out of my day I was due for oil change/tire rotation so I let them do that.

Just scheduled for OC/TR and the warranty item and they came back with all that.

If you look closely all those line items are listed as “deferred services”, they came back with all that to me and I instantly said no of course.

Most dealers behave this way. Some will even take it one step further. Put some of your diff oil on a nice piece of white paper. Look! Your oil is dark. Dark is dirty. Dirty is bad. A differential costs $5,000 to replace. And you're a bad person if you don't elect to have it changed. NOW.

Then, you tell them, per the owner's manual, it's not due yet. So they give you the line about that's Jeep's maximum interval and they recommend changing well before then for the best service life (look how dirty your oil is on white paper! You're telling me, a seasoned service advisor who sees millions of Jeeps every day, that I'm wrong?!)

Look...not everyone can or wants to service their own Jeep at home. Yes, it can be done much, much cheaper if you do it yourself. On differentials with a drain plug, a drain and refill takes <10 minutes, and two quarts of oil might be $30 for it (just be sure to get oil with Limited Slip additive, if your Jeep needs it). An air filter from Mopar might be $25 and it takes 7 minutes to replace including getting out the screwdriver. Just don't break the fan wiring harness connector on the 2.0. Transfer case service is as simple as the differentials. Open the fill port, open the drain port, drain, clean the plug, reinstall, refill, and reinstall fill plug.

You can shop around, go to an independent shop. You'll still pay a premium to have someone else do it, but it should be cheaper than a dealer if they're worth their weight.

Be wary of the air/fuel injection service. Most dealers, that means wiping out the throttle body intake/butterfly with some carb cleaner, and dumping a bottle of "injector cleaner" in your fuel tank.

It's important to stay on top of service, but there are way more economical ways to do it and still satisfy the manufacturer-recommended service schedule.

Now, if you're interested and want to service your own Jeep, wipe some of that dirty oil under your eyes, glove up, and start asking questions on here. They'll tell ya. (I'm kidding about the oil. Don't do that. Used oil is carcinogenic).

My wife took her Jeep Liberty to a local shop, a franchise of a well-known chain of auto tires and services. She was there for an oil change and to replace the left rear blinker bulb. I'm at my desk at work when she calls me and all I hear her say is...'Talk to the man!'.

He says he's the service writer and asks if we're having trouble with the blinkers. I told him that the left rear bulb was out and needed to be replaced...(same thing my wife told him). He offered to do a...get this...a complete blinker system diagnostic check for only $29.95. I had to keep myself from laughing and instructed them to just replace the bulb. That was the last time my wife used that shop. We've been at our current, independent, service shop for about 10-years now.

An air filter from Mopar might be $25 and it takes 7 minutes to replace including getting out the screwdriver.

I wish they were $25. I paid $34 nine months ago and today my closest dealership quoted me $100 for air filter and $56 for cabin air filter. I called another dealership and it was $66. So in 9 months they have basically doubled in price, but you can get them from All Mopar Parts for way cheaper.

My only concern about busting out tools and a YouTube video and trying some of this myself would be... without the maintenance record from the dealer, could that be used against me at some point down the road if there's a warranty issue?
